I am impressed that Mary is a very, very good student and from what I have read is qualified to apply to Medical School or programs in many different allied science fields. She apparently still has the running bug, but she must realize the opportunity cost of taking an apparel marketing job over having a science-based career. This is also a tough time for all apparel companies (look at GIII, Ralph Lauren, PVH in the stock market). She will do well in whatever she chooses, but I hope an extension of a difficult running career is not behind her decision.
An Outside article says she has a degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Fordham. Don’t think she’s going to med school.
You see this time and time again. People put their academic and career goals on hold to pursue the dream of running. It is romanticized here, but,
The next thing you know their 30 working as a shoe rep or running store manager for the rest of their life for 50k a year talking about the 13:30 you ran or your marathon qualifier.
That is why I respect Martin Hehir so much. He gave running a go, but knew when to shift his focus to his career and future outside of running.
