So, they're just going to promote that chubby fella and look for an alumni for his assistant position?

What’s the news on the CSUSD job? Who left? Who’s up for it? Rumors?
CSUSD? Cal State University San Diego? As in, SDSU? Is there Really an opening?

There has been a posting for a jumps position.
Looks like this is the new Duke HC

Knocking? Do you know what he got fired for or any idea? Sinful? Not afraid to burn. Things catch up to you, no one is high and mighty.
Do you know why he was terminated without cause? Contractually they don't need a reason, but to let a legendary coach go and not say anything? That sounds pretty fishy.
A lot of jumps and multis movement! Who looks good for Arizona and Purdue?
Miller Minnesota to Mizzou?
There's always cause. I'd be lieing if I said there was anything specific I knew about. From my personal interaction and others I know who have interacted with him, he's not exactly a "stand up" guy. Fishy, yes. There are details that are not being released. My belief is he knows more than what he's revealing. A coach of his status isn't suddenly let go out of the blue.
Plus, every other suspicion was far left.

who ?
I'm confused. Did Duke ever make an actually announcement about promoting Shawn? If not, what an uninspired change of command. Also looks like they moved Goetz to full time.
Interesting that Shawn's first hire is his own event area. You would think they would want a well established mens distance coach. Or maybe they'll just give up in that event area despite what would seemingly be a good fit for Duke.
As far as I can tell, it looks like they are removing some of the coaching responsibilities now that he’s the head guy.

They already have a men's coach on staff. Riley. Interesting that the new "Head Coach" doesn't have the title of "Director"...
Well, events coaching is very time consuming compared to distance coaching. It's quite common for event head coaches to have to hire an asset in their own area to help with the considerable administrative demands of directing a program.
Distance coaches are hired as head coaches because their coaching hours are fewer per day than event coaches' or because an athletic department wants a low equipment overhead, high gpa distance-heavy program. Distance coaches are rarely hired into head coaching jobs because they understand recruiting, training, and point scoring strategies across all track and field event areas. However there certainly are excellent distance coaches who fit that bill.

One of the more laughable things I’ve read in a while. LetsRun do your thing.

While there is a lot of truth to this, it goes beyond distance coaches. Most TF coaches do not know much about the sport outside of their event area. Very few can see the big picture of the entire team. I've met a lot of distance coaches over the years, successful ones, that have no idea the height of the Men's Intermediate Hurdles, or what the various marks mean on the track. I've also met a lot of jump coaches who don't know the order and distances run for each leg of the DMR. I've met a lot of throws coaches who don't understand why a miler ever runs further than the mile.
The ignorance of many TF when it comes to events other than their own is astounding and incredibly concerning.
Come on folks, this is an open coaching position thread. Go argue/cry about this stuff somewhere else.

Oh hey Kevin! We’ve missed you. Where are you coaching these days?
