Official Brett Kavanaugh confirmation thread

Dr. Ford has to ask her beach friends for advice. Judge Kavanaugh actually had the evidence to refute the claims of Dr. Ford. So if anything that falls flat it is your weak criticism.

You know nothing about me. I am pretty confident I have done more in my lifetime for women and minorities than you ever will. You and many of the other posters talk a good game but that is all it is. Don't think this won't happen to you. Don't be naive. The vast majority of women don't lie, but some sure will. They will even lie about sexual assault. There are plenty of ruined lives to attest to that.

I don't have to be careful because I'm not a rapist. Never have been. At 17 I knew enough to not sexually assault anyone. That's not asking too much - except for rich, prep school boys apparently.

Agreed, people who can’t remember things from 30+ years ago are lying, like Ford , who can’t remember where the party was, when it was, how she got to the party, how she got home, how many people were at this party... or recent things, like when her grandma’s funeral was, when she actually took the polygraph, if she gave her therapist’s notes to the Wall Street Journal, if she paid for her polygraph, etc. At least she remembers she is afraid of flying in airplanes, which she actually does. A lot.

Sexual assault and hypocrisy are independent of political party. There are R's and D's that both have been caught with their pants down. Many of the VERY same people who are saying we must believe Dr. Ford also were saying "When Bush lied, people died." defending their boy Bill Clinton from well founded (much more corroborated than this) SERIAL sexual harrassment and assault-culminating with receiving fellatio in the White House with a 22 year old college intern-as he was married and pushing 50. Ted Kennedy led the charge on keeping Robert Bork off the court--just 17 years after he drowned his girlfriend, and left the scene of the crime. Nelson Rockefeller is widely believed to have died of a heart attack while in the arms of his mistress. Gary Hart abandoned his front running campaign for President because he was caught fooling around with Donna Rice, a striking beauty queen 22 years his junior. Wilbur Mills, a prominent congressman from Ohio, was forced out of politics for carrying on with a stripper over several years. JFK, Eisenhower, and FDR are widely known to have had affairs while married--though were discrete enough that it did not impact their careers. Won't even touch Trump--strangely, he's skated thus far, though his record is right up there with the Kennedy family's in terms of scumminess. I'm essentially the same age as Kavanaugh. By my scorecard, the D's have had considerably more sex scandals in my lifetime than have the R's. Why would the GOP be afraid of an uprising of women--they're not the party of white house oral sex with interns, or bimbo eruptions-or even dead campaign volunteer girls. Sexual assault is wrong. But so is criminalizing political opponents for no reason other than they are opponents. That's what happens in banana republics. Just as Trump was wrong leading chants of "Lock Her Up." about Hillary, Diane Feinstein is wrong about dropping unprovable and unsubstantiated claims at the 11th hour-ruining a man's life-all to score political points. If it happened, provide evidence. Otherwise, I have to believe it's just a political hand grenade. Let's say it is true--drunken dry humping as a teenager is nowhere close to what Clinton, or Kennedy have been shown beyond a shadow of a doubt to have done. And Ms. Feinstein supported Clinton with the same vitriol she now attacks Kavanaugh. I believe something unseemly might have happened to Dr. Ford at a party 36 years ago. I don't think it was as bad as it is being portrayed, and I don't think Kavanaugh did it--whether Ford is mistaken or lying, or a little bit of both, is impossible to say.

I have lost respect for more people I know personally in the last three weeks than possibly ever before. They may never know it, but I won't forget their departure from reason or trust them to keep their heads under pressure.

This is true on my part as well. Had the issue of Dr. Ford been handed to the FBI immediately without going through the nonsense of having the hearing with a bunch of middle to late model male Senators leading the charge with some screaming hysterically at how unfair the entire process they created was, we'd probably either have a new Justice or a new nomination by now.

Well, Kavanaugh said he didn't have any connections. If you are saying he lied, then ok, I'll buy that. There are other ways to pay for an expensive all boys school though. Here' s the thing...I am not defending this guy at all. He's a scum. That was clear in his testimony. He is clearly lying, and by watching his wife, I think she knows it. His policy positions are crazy to begin with. There is no question though that he was a talented student at an extreme level. Yale is arguably one of the top 5 Universities in the country and very difficult to get in if you are not a recruited athlete, and he was not. He then was accepted into the Yale Law school which is annually ranked even higher nationally than the undergraduate school.

There is no question that he is intellectually gifted.

It does appear though that he has a sense of entitlement, does not respect women based on accusations and his positions on women's health, and showed poor judgement when being so partisan in his hearing.

He has some sort of a blind spot with regard to proper behavior as I have already said. That is a different thing than his intelligence.

It would be a rare person who graduated from Yale AND then Yale Law School who is not exceptionally intelligent.

I'm so glad Democrats actually care about Dr. Ford and aren't just using her for political and monetary gain. Thank God we have people who want justice and will not rest until disgusting Brett Kavanaugh has been destroyed.

Agree that he’ll be confirmed. But, it’ll be razor thin. 51-50 with Mike “God Squad” Pence casting the deciding vote. Terrible for the country but great for the American Taliban that want real freedom by forcing everyone to believe exactly what they believe.

Ummm, the Taliban believe in killing juridically innocent human beings, something they share with the Democrat Party, but not with the Republican Party.

WHAT!? Are you serious? 73 yes votes? He wouldn't get that many Democrats to vote for him even if these accusations weren't made as he has VERY far right views on guns, abortion, and then believes the President should almost be treated as a king.

The Yale thing and parallels to Bork are fascinating. Perhaps one of the brojos could chime in, didn't one of them attend Yale as a non-liberal? Do non-liberal get treated poorly there, labeled drunks? Just a question, don't know.
