He conveniently didn't mention that the first 6 miles of that 2:30 marathon were uphill going from 8500' to 9400' in 6:01, 5:47, 6:00, 6:01, 6:14, 6:29. Yes, the rest was mostly downhill, but if you've ever run uphill at 9000' you would know those splits are not remotely possible for an unacclimated runner of his ability who is used to sea level. He would be absolutely gassed trying that first split alone.

Also, in that same strava data, he covered at least 13.1 non-stop because strava gave him a best effort half marathon of 1:12 in it.

Also, he got a best effort 2-mile effort (10:32) and one mile (5:00) allegedly running uphill in this strava data. Claiming "elapsed time" can't sweep those best efforts under the rug.

And his claims that it's difficult to upload the data with a 2 man crew are ridiculous. The girl currently running across the US has no problem doing it. Also, he had no problem logging data for the first 3 days or the last 5 days when he was observed. Funny how it's only in the west at night when no one is watching that data goes missing and is altered and is ludicrous.

Chef Ramsey is an athlete. He competes in triathlons and such. He takes it seriously.

Wouldn't it be epic to see Ramsey all raged out and calling out Robert Young for being a big fraud and cheater? I'd literally pay to watch that. I'd love to see a real man like Ramsey emasculate a fraud sissy wannabe like Robert Young!!!!!

Also, if you're reading this Robert you're a disgrace to your country and your family. Come clean now about your lies and cheating over the past decade. No sense dragging this out an longer. Be a man about it.

Robert Young did come clean in this interview: "The controversy did affect me as I am an honest person doing or trying to do the thing for the right reason. It is a sport that I love, and I was running for three charities."

Doing interviews like this makes him look even MORE stupid, because eventually the truth will come out.

Though i guess the investigation may never fully out him as a cheat as he's deliberately deleted so much raw data off his watch.

He called out Mark Vaz as a cheat and demanded to know where his data was - then heads off on a world record attempt and, er, deletes all his data (after removing cadence data from whatever he DID upload)

I don't have any experience in ultras, but here is my current view from the outside looking in. I welcome any ultra runners to educate me.

-ultra running is hard, it hurts, takes determination, etc.

-ultras must be specifically trained for to complete adequately.

-speed at shorter distances does not guarantee success at ultra, but it helps. (e.g. 10k vs marathon)

-durability (from injury) is a larger part of the talent needed for success

-the ultra community is small and typically older, with a shallow young talent pool

-there is generally more emphasis on completion rather than competition.

-if the talent that populates the shorter distances moved to ultra en masse, the current scale of slow vs good vs world class would be shattered.

His live tracking is still up - he's still in the parking lot of Golden Corral.

I love a buffet as much as the next guy, but maybe it's time to push yourself away from the table and go run a few miles.

Or at least go for an RV ride...

I feel like I'm falling into his trap by even responding to these fairy tales with anything more detailed than a "haha, what bullshit!", but here is the speed-vs.-time graph of that run, which is the way to show any and all breaks that he took (generated by GoldenCheetah software from a download of the GPX data from his Strava account):

It shows the first 13.7 miles were covered without a break (and without a single drop to walking speed) in 1h17m (5:24 min/mile). Then the final 11.9 miles were similarly covered without a break or drop to walking speed, in 1h08m (5:43 min/mile). One break in the middle of 15 minutes.

same for every distance, depending on your definition of "adequately". Certainly not going to win a 200m race while training for 10k, or vice versa.

same for almost every distance when compared to other distances.

Maybe I guess, if you have trouble upping your weekly volume? On the flip side of the higher chance of repetitive stress injury for long distances, straining a muscle like hamstring or groin is more likely to happen to sprinters than long distance guys.

same for marathons, the younger talent runs shorter distances until they "graduate" to the long ones. Recently the top marathon runners' ages have dipped down compared to the past. But WS was won by a 20yo. The 100mi AR was set by a 29yo. It's more a matter of younger runners generally taking time to build up from short distances, where the money is. And if you can make real money running 10K as a pro, you'd be stupid (or foolishly idealistic) to run 100mi for peanuts. That is far more the problem than it being the case that there's no talent for long distance.

-there is generally more emphasis on completion rather than competition.

among some... but no more emphasis than at the marathon, half-marathon, or hell even 5Km level races... 30,000+ people turn up to the Rock'n'roll half marathons and 98% of them only give a crap about completion. It's only in elite field competition for track that you see Competition over Completion as the only viewpoint, and there are ultras like that too. 24hr World Championships, 100k WC, Desert Solstice. There aren't as many elite-field ultra events because there aren't as many people trained to run at the level necessary, and you can't run at that level nearly as many times in a season as you can for say 5k. Three 24hr heats in a week or two? Ouch.

Same for 5k, half-marathons, marathons, etc... There's far more casual 5k runners than ultramarathoners, proportionally it's about equal. The last half-marathon I ran I came in top 10% of the field.... with a measly 1:45. Last Ultra I ran I came in at pretty much the exact same top 10%, with 70+mi in 12 hours. I generally place at about the same percentile in both short distances and ultras at the exact same fitness level.

Yes, but there is still no absolute definitive proof to show his fans. Showing them the impossible data means nothing to them. Just because WE know (and you Markus were about the first to out him as cheating) we still need absolute proof to give to those that pay into his gofundme account.

Will that come after the full investigation? Well if all original data has been deleted off his TomTom watch, then maybe not

Which will be his new excuse. The data has been deleted and he can't show it to anyone now.

Not the way it works. You don't need a signal to sync your watch to your phone or computer (whichever you're using). After its synced, there is room on the watch for new data. When you have a signal you can have the phone/computer upload it to TomTom's servers.

There is no possibility of absolute proof short of a confession.... Even a video of him in the RV while it drives would mean nothing, because they could claim that he backtracked and ran that section later.

The closest thing to absolute proof would be an eyewitness catching the RV riding along with no runner anywhere near. If only there were someone that saw such a thing.

I was just thinking, maybe this is all part of SKINS CEO Jaimie Fullers plan.

Probably not intentional but now they can do an investigation on Robert Young, come to a conclusion and split ways with RY. After that he can say that he cleaned his own house.

I started running at age 30 and was the guy who earlier wrote about a sub80 HM and 5min mile.

I did a lot of endurance sports as a kid, cross country skiing and mountain bike racing. A lot.

It was during this year of ultra training that I finally grasped sport nutrition. That was SO liberating! I can now do centennials on the bike even out of shape and such. Refueling during activities longer than 3 hours is a science of its own.

Many distance runners could learn it as it requires introspection and perseverance.

I got the shits in every HM I tried and every tempo pace sends me to the toilet. So finally to get at *some* distance nutrition right was a success to me.

Refueling is the key to ultra distance finishing. Everything else comes second to that.

But ultra runners are to be avoided as it is all a bit mental with them.

I last checked in the morning of the 24th has anything of note happened since then or are the last 70 pages just rehashed stuff and opinions?

Has Young cleared up anything with checkable facts?
