To try to keep some attention on the subject of this thread, The Washington Post has released a new Pew Research Poll that suggests that the majority of Republicans don't believe the debt crisis is serious:

Liberals and Business Roundtable types that are being marginalized by the Tea Party want to portray this issue as being caused by 25 crazy individuals (25 individuals dominating 435 is logically indefensible, I think). But it really looks like the House leadership and the majority of Republicans are representing the views of their constituents. If that's really the case, the prospects for a resolution soon may not be good.

I almost never buy options, but I have decided to buy and OEX straddle (long puts and long calls) and I'll go whichever way this thing breaks.

You asked me to define all. All is all. And I posted the source and detail for this conclusion.

Just because you don't get the answer you like does not mean it did not get answered.

There was no Latin question. I noted that the word I was using, sic, was a Latin one. Someone then tried to claim that agip knowingly used a latin word "refutated" in the middle of a response -- an absurd assertion that had already been acknowledged as false.

There is no way to be any clearer with this stuff. You guys just don't want to accept it. Too bad

no - the hedge was only on for three days - oct 8,9 and 10. On oct 8 I sold the SP 500 and bought the Vix and long term zero coupon bonds.

When I closed out the hedge 3 days later I lost big on the SP 500 but made some back on the other two.

While I think it is an absurd claim that israel gets all data collected by the NSA, it can't be proven. But any thinking person will believe that israel only gets data relevant to the mid east.

For those interested, the 'five eyes' divide up the world and share raw data - the only 'news' here is that israel is not officially part of the five eyes. Here's how the countries split up the data:

Australia[edit]

and no, I haven't backtested the zero coupon bond or vix strategy - but it is clear that both move up in price when the market falls. So I buy them to hedge some of my equity exposure sometimes. A tiny amount, remember.

The trick is that the vix and zeros have proven too volatile for me - they move so fast that profits evaporate before I can sell.

It would appear that some of you have not read the Memorandum of Understanding that the USA gave to Israel within weeks of Obama becoming president:

I will repeat some key aspects of an earlier post:

1. The National Security Agency routinely shares raw intelligence data with Israel without first sifting it to remove information about US citizens, a top-secret document provided to the Guardian by whistleblower Edward Snowden reveals.

2. Details of the intelligence-sharing agreement are laid out in a memorandum of understanding between the NSA and its Israeli counterpart that shows the US government handed over intercepted communications likely to contain phone calls and emails of American citizens.

3. The memorandum makes clear that the information shared with the Israelis would be in its pre-minimized state.

4.Israel is allowed to receive “raw Sigint” – signal intelligence. The memorandum says: “Raw Sigint includes, but is not limited to, unevaluated and unminimized transcripts, gists, facsimiles, telex, voice and Digital Network Intelligence metadataand content.”

5. According to the agreement, the intelligence being shared would not be filtered in advance by NSA analysts to remove US communications. “NSA routinely sends ISNU [the Israeli Sigint National Unit] minimized and unminimized raw collection”, it says.

What does this all mean?

A. Israel gets ALL of our data -- edited in no way -- that is scooped up by the NSA. It is unclear how some posters are arriving at the idea that they do not.

B. No other nation gets anywhere near this kind of access (although if any did I don't see how that would in any way be reassuring).
