One more thing that I should have pointed out, several of the public schools in this league are much larger than the private ones. They also have much bigger teams. Davis and Folsom have 2800+ kids (once you count all the school that Davis draws from because it's not just the High School). Franklin 2700 and Oak Ridge 2400. Those are the biggest four by far.
I agree but public schools are also guilty of recruiting- Dana Hills, Great Oak, and Newberry Park are prime examples. Also, not to discredit Whitney since that is one of my cousin’s Alma maters and a lot of my xc friends were Whitney xc alumni, but the Whitney girls team last year got the majority of the Del Oro girls team last year due to the majority of the DO team having a conflict with the current coach and Damon Chamberlin (Riley and Karissa Chamberlin’s dad) wanting to take over the current program- this conflict also explains why Del Oro’s girl team has turned to crap in comparison to previous years.

I believe all the transfers have graduated now. Might be one left. They scored in everything though, not just distance. You can’t win Sections on distance alone, it takes a full team.
Oh ik in xc it takes a team to do well, but im just addressing how public schools are not any different than private schools when it comes to recruitment. Yes ik private schools have the resources to outperform the average program but no one considers or scrutinizes public schools for doing the same thing.

@SJSGlaze, why are you glazing the public schools?

While some of Newbury Park's athletes could be considered "recruited" (ex. Dev Doshi), most of the top runners of Newbury Park I wouldn't consider to be recruited. The 3 Young brothers and the Sahlman brothers were all from Camarillo, which is in the Newbury Park school district. Even Brayden Seymour wasn't recruited. He moved to Newbury Park because his mom got a job there. Sure maybe the school's team may have played a role in where specifically he moved, but that's more of a transferring issue than a recruiting issue.
Doshi competed for the “Newbury Park Track club” in 7th grade so I don’t think he was recruited
Cantu (one of the 2023 grads), however, lived an hour away from NP (someone posted that in another thread a while back)
If Cantu lived an hour away, the only question is if in CA, he was still allowed to attend Newbury Park. If so, then no big deal.
I always laugh at claims of recruitment by public schools. In most of the country the athlete still has to live in the school district.
Some states have 'school choice', where parents can pick public schools. Colorado an example that allows top public schools to recruit. It may not technically be recruiting, but parents know where best coaches, teams, and academics are.
Real recruiting goes on at private schools that offer scholarships, and can even recruit nationally if they want.

I feel like if you have 2800 kids at your school you shouldn’t need to recruit from the outside. Maybe you just can’t get the kids to come out or can’t coach them up? They might just be bad at coaching.
The private schools are smaller and maybe some good athletes just go there because they want a better athletic program and better academics? Is that “recruiting”?
The term recruiting is thrown around very loosely in this forum. At the end of the day even if you get the athletes you have to be able to coach and keep them healthy.

Every student at a private school, even non athletes, must be recruited. The school has to convince parents to pay tuition at a private school vs going free to public school. (Otherwise they quickly go out of business)
If the private school cares about sports, and has healthy finances, they can choose to offer scholarships to athletes in hope of fielding winning teams.
