Wow, Danny was there for only a year, had the program headed in the right direction. Odd
May wanna look into his past though because he hasn't exactly “bummed around” getting lucky at a bunch of different programs. Led Northeastern for a couple years and spent six years as an Oregon TC assistant. Can’t fake your way into that. It’s not a college program but not too far off the same lifestyle and coaching philosophy.
Does LSU expect NCAA Finalists and not just Prelims? Sure; but have they had many in the 800m up as of late? Not as much. Certainly little compared to the sprints/jumps side. Don’t necessarily attribute his volunteer position to a lack of comprehension for coaching.

This is quite unfair to say. Yes the AD is pretty new, but she made a point and instead of insulting maybe if you looked at the coaching staff make up you would she were see was coming from. Out of 48 total coaching staff (some assistant positions yet to be filled), 9 are women, and of the 9 women’s head coaching spots only 2 are women.
So yes there are many subjective factors that go into hirings , but let’s not act like she is saying her point is the only factor to consider and then dismiss her valid point! They can all coexist!!
Calling the AD sexist without evidence is beyond the pale. Your count means nothing - merit is more important than those ratios.
She had no valid point. The hired candidate was highly qualified.
In fact, the discrimination actually goes the other way - against men.

Listen carefully! Merits wanted are subjective and they depend on what the person hiring is looking for. If this AD was looking for a female candidate to lead a women’s team then so be it...if not so be it! The AD was not called sexist. Being surprised that he didn’t pick a female is no different than being surprised if he chose a young up and coming over a seasoned vet. Keep crying, go change your Depends, and take your sensitive and highly emotional feelings to bed!

I hate this kind of banter, but had to say this...
First, let me apologize in advance for doing my best to offend nearly everyone in this thread with a dose of truth and reality.
The truth is both sides are right. Women, minorities, etc are under represented, and we should be encouraging the hiring and promotion of these groups in our sport. On the other hand, it is also true that AD’s and head coaches at many (if not most) schools have to justify why they didn’t hire a female or minority for jobs...nobody cares if they turn away white males, and people who don’t want to have to go through this sometimes lengthy process will sometimes hire a less qualified person in order to appease the powers that be.
However, here’s the reality in most situations,... there are way more factors at play than just your qualifications. AD’s and head coaches are looking for the person who is the best fit, and sometimes that’s situational, political, financial, or relational. Anyone, and I mean anyone (female, minority, or white male) who thinks they were passed over for their gender or skin tone is likely wrong. Does it happen? Sure, but quit thinking so narrowly, and going to that as a first response, because it rarely is the case. Am I saying that bias doesn’t play a role? No. Quite the opposite. Every AD or HC has a particular vision for how they want to achieve success...this biases their decisions. Hell, look around on this board...every Tom , Dick, Harry, and Lucy on this board thinks every HC hire should be a distance based coach...you’re biased. Why are field event coaches (jumps and throws) so under represented as HC’s? Because AD’s biases lead them to a vision of their teams being built around those events!
Here’s the real problem....We, as a profession over-represented by white males have done a poor job of fostering the desire to coach in our female athletes, and our minority athletes. In addition, we’ve made it difficult for female coaches, who have societal pressures to take the lions share of responsibility in the family unit, but are expected to work endless hours on the track and in the office, followed by extensive time on the road recruiting...and then there’s the seasons....so we have a huge rate of attrition for females in the profession. These groups are under-represented, but it’s not always, or even usually, racism or sexism in this profession.
So...I could go on with more, but I’ll leave you all with this.... I’m a white male D1 HC with a decorated resume, and I’ve been passed over for jobs that were filled with minorities or females with less impressive resume’s. Guess what? Good for them! I have to assume that they were a better fit for the vision the hiring committee had for the program. We all need to see a wider perspective. We all need to quit acting so entitled. We all need to be promoting groups who are under-represented. We all need to be against discrimination against any gender, race, etc. We all need to quit jumping to that assumption the second we don’t get a job!

Who?
Dan Goetz deserves whatever promotion he gets, a dedicated coach that interacts very well with parents as does Rhonda.
I second this. I know Daniel pretty well, great person and is very involved in the program. Will hold a stopwatch, we all hold stopwatches smartass, but that isn’t all he will be doing. Well deserved and earned. Rhonda is lucky to have him and you’ll see the men’s performances improve substantially. Great hire!

I am sure he is a great guy and has paid his dues, but there are a lot of people who have paid dues and have substantial resumes. Duke is a P5 school, it’s unlikely they promote a volunteer, and that’s why the posting is still up. Good luck to him though.

One of those people was me!! Asked directly to my source and was told they already had their person. If you were a head xc coach looking for an assistant, who would you pick, someone with a great resume that you dont know his or her character, or someone with a less experience but is somebody you TRUST!!! Bummed i didnt get a shot but i totally understand and in full support. Congrats to him

It could be that he was only making $41,500 to be a DI head coach, living in a high cost of living city.
Will absolutely be Goetz.
Danny was let go.

Will the women's performances not improve substantially? He'll be doing the same thing for them.
Kibwe Johnson on the move somewhere. Stands to reason it’s for a coaching job.
Quinnipiac University is in the search for a new Men's head XC coach
CMU just sent out emails informing hire has been made.
Central Michigan or Central Methodist
Anyone know who was interviewed at Arizona for the jumps spot?
