If you look at a chart of his miles by Night / Day, you can see a clear pattern - the first 3 days and the last 9 days are the same night distances: about 10 - 20mi (excluding the very first night when he started the run because he started at 11pm ET, it makes sense that he'd get good mileage there though).

Everything from day 4 till the day this thread exploded, his nightly distances are between 35 - 60 (in 8.5hours!!) miles.

Agree, we've had wankers like Jehosephat on other cheater threads where they take what they see as the moral high ground (when it suits them of course), but then low and behold what does further sleuthing lead to?, more links and sources to the cheating.

Yeah well, running 7 minute pace for 30 miles isn't hard at all. It's hobby joggerish

Something else is interesting to notice: Rob uploaded 2 versions of this run. One is clearly a recording of him, the other is clearly a recording of the bike following him.

There's nothing untoward here specifically, but why would Dustin have a TomTom on the bike? Perhaps the bike was a part of the fraud after all?

Well done. This is the smoking gun for me. Bike ridden tom tom was part of the planned fraud from day 1. Explains the smooth 18-19 minute 5k splits, button hooks then Rob jogging and walking into towns. Even strava won't call bs on bike ridden "runs" if the pace is within the limits of the possible for running. All the missing strava activities on that US map graphic were from a tired rider who needed to ride at 13 mph to stay awake. Poor Dustin.

it seems like the hypothesis here is that all the segments were either RY running or RY/Dustin biking. Not sure if that's the intention here but I doubt that all the fast stuff even included a bike. I'm guessing they were just cruising along in the RV.

In addition to not seeing a runner, I didn't see a biker coming through Lebo. While it is possible a bike completed some sections, it doesn't explain everything. It would have made even less sense to have an RV and a bike traveling at runner's pace at night.

My guess is they felt safe posting the bike data, but the RV is the reason for the data gaps (notice we are missing a lot from western Kansas; there's not a whole lot out there, so they could do a lot of driving).

Maybe it started with a bike, and then they said "Why not just drive the RV slow?"

There is no evidence presented in a readable format. No, I'm sorry, 8000+ posts on letsrun are not evidence. Neither are a huge google doc or a complex web site.

Present evidence as 3-4 obviously faked "runs" and explain why they're fake. Compare the paces to world records or similar. Unless a short list of clear evidence is presented, expect the "independent" analyzers to conclude there's no evidence for him cheating. For example they may say:

1) GPS data: We have investigated all the presented Strava data and have not found any legs that would be impossible for RY to run. The paces are fast, but with a 2:41 marathon PR he would be capable of running every one of these legs. His recovery is remarkable as has been proven by a team of scientists and in particular by his win in the RaceAcrossUSA race (where he even added a fast marathon in London). Although the GPS data is not complete there is no evidence that RY has cheated.

2) Video proof: Allegations of cheating have been raised after stealth filming and a video obtained from a surveillance camera. The claims were that RY did not run but rode in the RV. We have compared the GPS data and the video from the surveillance camera. It is clear that RY walks by the surveillance camera exactly like the the GPS data predicts. The allegation of cheating is obviously false.

The "stealth video" was shot by a runner who claims he wanted to run with RY. The video does not show RY, but that does not prove cheating. A group of observers admitted it was extremely difficult to spot RY as he would often run on the other side of the road. They had to invent special techniques to spot him (looking for his feet under the RV). That the runner who didn't even present himself to the team failed to film RY does not constitute evidence of cheating. It should be kept in mind that it was this same runner who raised the false allegation that RY didn't pass the surveillance camera.

3) A group of independent observers (highly experienced multi day runners) followed RY for several days. They could not report any kind of cheating.

Conclusion: There is neither GPS evidence, video evidence or evidence from witnesses that RY has cheated. As there are gaps in the GPS data, they cannot be used as evidence for a record run. However, this point is moot as RY got injured and did not complete the record attempt. He does not intend to seek the Guinness world record for the fastest run across the USA.

Comment from SKINS: It should be noted that RY agrees that the data collection was not good enough despite the hard efforts of the whole team. They are now looking into better methods for data gathering. We are certain that they will fine tune these minor issues and we look forward to sponsoring Rob's next adventure.

Maybe they can salvage something from the whole charade and apply for slowest attempted transcon in an RV Guinness record?

Agreed. While I pointed out a couple odd segments where a bike is a better explanation than an RV, I think the RV was still the dominant (perhaps nearly-exclusive) cheating method. Most of the preposterous long-distance 5min/mi segments show little to no speed variation on the ascents/descents, which is extremely unlikely for either running OR biking. Also it would defy even the limited amounts of reason these guys seem to have.

The bike idea is something to just keep in mind when no other explanations for the data seem to make any sense.

Though I doubt that the bike segment was uploaded intentionally. It seems more likely to me that it was just another case of their poor data-management (like uploading a bunch of impossible runs to Strava before deleting them, and still leaving some up undeleted).

I found an article a while back where the author corroborated the existence of scars on his thigh and foot IIRC, one of which Rob said was due to his father forcing his sister to stab him.
