Robert Young fakes run across America

Found another nice example of a clear "transition point" where pace suddenly slows. Run marked 4:42 AM on Thursday, May 19, 2016, 4.5 miles in.

Shame, because he had averaged sub-6 for nearly 14 miles just a couple hours before. Anyway... you will see the buttonhook track is clear as day. ~6min pace before the buttonhook and then 14-17 minute miles. The chart is so clear. Appears like the transition occurred right before a populated area. Another highlight of this track is during the slow miles you see he actually cut a corner and continued to run on other side of road (5.3) and then cut back over shortly -- something i haven't seen at the ~6 pace (those seem to always be with traffic).

Something else interesting... Mile ~7.4 of this segment matches up to the FB photo Rob posted on 5/19 "Fore!! Coming through Arizona in the early hours." So, yep, for the 14-17 minute pace we have nice photo evidence of Rob out there. I am pretty confident he was doing these miles honestly. What is noteworthy here is what he is wearing.

He looks quite dapper in his Skins jacket. At this point he would have been running for about 1 hour and 24 minutes. Even knocked out a number of ~6 minute miles and climbed and descended some good hills (almost a thousand feet of climb). Clear sunny day, with temperature of 60 degrees according to weather underground. Wearing a jacket 1:24 into the run when it is 60 degrees and sunny with no sweat. Amazing. Maybe climate doesn't affect him as long as it is west of the Mississippi or the Geezers aren't around.

Here is a seemingly honest segment where you can see the gps track of Rob starting from a complete stop (5:04 May 21). Steps out of the RV and then going to back before turning around and running. Exactly the pattern we see after the fast miles end and the slow miles begin (he exits the vehicle).

Also cross correlate the photos that are on the blog (exif) with segments. Use the false rob young strava since we have control and won't delete activities. In fact, feel free to post imgur screenshots and or metadata to the segments themselves if you have a strava acct

That's right. Suspicious activities haven't been uploaded. Jaimie Fuller's independent investigation next week won't find anything untoward about the data. Plus Rob has plenty of photos, witnessed logbooks, 10 minutes of video per day etc.. SKINS is in the clear.

I know you have already been sent many emails about the doubts many in the online running community have about the veracity of Robert Young’s recent attempt to break the record for the transcontinental run across the USA. I believe you have stated you are waiting for independent experts to analyse the data and report back to you sometime next week.

I just wanted to draw your attention to 2 things that really concern me when I have looked at the running data Rob has uploaded in the past 24 hours to Strava. Firstly, many activities that were initially uploaded have now been deleted. An example of this can be found near the bottom of the long list of Strava links he posted to his Facebook page:

The data supplied on Strava do not come close to covering the entire distance Rob claims to have run. There are huge gaps, so how can the data possibly be used to confirm or deny his cheating when there is so much missing?

Secondly, there are at least 2 segments that I have personally seen on Strava that are physically impossible. The most implausible of these takes place on May 20, when Rob had already been running up to 70 miles per day for many days. The link to Strava is here:

It seems that Rob ran this entire segment at an impossibly fast pace – around 6:26 min/mile or 4:00 min/km – while simultaneously climbing many thousands of feet. Miles 15-20 climb 1500ft while maintaining a pace that averages the same impressive 6:30 min/mile. As a stand-alone run this would be amazing; in the midst of a transcontinental run with many days of extremely high mileage already in the books, it is simply impossible.

Unfortunately the data do not support his claim of running the whole way, and this is obvious even to laypersons such as myself (although I am an experienced marathoner (I have run Boston 3 times in the Elite Women’s field) and am also a doctor with a good grasp of physiology). I think that even without the analysis of your experts, the data already to hand is conclusive. Even though there is much missing that is essential to prove he was actually running rather than riding in the RV, such as cadence or HR data.

I call upon you as CEO of SKINS – a company I am sure you would want associated with clean competition rather than cheating – to cease your support of Robert Young and remove your brand from association with his MarathonManUK moniker.

I look forward to your reply on this matter.

The thing I can't figure out is why he'd walk back around behind the RV instead of simply waiting for it to drive away and starting from where he got out.

Unless... if you turn on satellite view, is the spot where he gets out grassy or sloped in a way that would make it difficult to run? Then he might go back behind the RV to get back onto the road to run.

Robert Young can not be considered a cheat because of a data malfunction, to quote LetsRun.com "There are huge gaps, so how can the data possibly be used to confirm or deny his cheating when there is so much missing?". Also, we have various other forms of back up and witnesses to indicate he did not cheat.

I would be interested in what Laz thinks of this god data as an race director. But even more important is the opinion of fake Laz

It can't be used to deny cheating since it has so many gaps.

But confirming cheating only takes 1 spot of confirmed cheating. The gaps don't mean anything here. And since he refuses to release the real GPS data with HR and cadence, it's pretty much useless for anything except making him look like a cheat. But it doesn't prove anything.

What does prove something is the video of him cheating ;)

There's no video of "him" cheating because you can't see "him", which is why you put the ;) I guess.

By now you know that Rob has uploaded lots of new transcon pics to his Facebook page. The bulk of which show him meeting people, walking, goofing off, and more walking. Let me ask you a question. If your best pal was performing these incredible 15-30 mile runs at 6:xx paces up mountains, wouldn't you make a point of taking some pics of him hitting such a nice stride and busting out these new incredible PRs? Of course you would!

And because you are very active in social media reporting Robs daily progress.. Why would you not mention these lightening fast PR runs through the mountains in your daily blog to your adoring fans at home?

It is not like you are a modest person by any means that keeps his accomplishments to himself. if I didn't know better, your silence on these runs almost seems like you don't want people to know about them. Very odd and out of character.
