My marathon is my 3rd or 4th best age graded time over the last few years (definitely behind a 15k and a half, and I think behind a 5k), but it remained on the most recent board because, at the time, it was the only one that was within the last year (which I recall was the original standard that we used).
Yes, I still like the "within the last year" standard, I just have no record at this point, so I'm giving everyone a pass, unless they want to give me a date for their last performance, which I'm updating in the spreadsheet. It'll be easy for me to maintain and just copy and paste each week. If anyone wants to give me a date, just throw it on the board here and I'll update.
Bringing back the convo on bargaining with oneself...
I find myself doing quite a few things to get through a workout. I am constantly thinking that I'm going to cut a workout short (including before the workout even starts)... telling myself this is probably the last rep. But then I jog a recovery, and I'm ok for one more. During races, like last weekend, I think in my mind I'm always thinking the worst and just waiting until I hit the wall. I try not to look at my watch, and try and focus on a spot in the distance, just maintain pace and get to that point, just keep going. I break it down into laps on a track, only 4 more to go, etc. It's amazing how a few mind tricks can work to keep you moving.
