If any true powerful white guy decides he wants to sprint he becomes one of the better sprinters quickly. There is no example anywhere in the NFL or sprints as huge, powerful, and fast a man as Emile Erasmus. That is a pure monster athlete who gets up to 240 pounds. He's 6'5". Herschel Walker is a tiny midget compared to him. Walker can only do 10.2 while Erasmus does 10 flat.

There have been tons of white sprinter over the years, far more than most of you are aware of. But the thing with these guys is they are fine until it takes a sub 9.3/9.90 to win. They just can't go there, no white American sprinter has ever ran a SUB 9.2 or 10.00. That is beyond what they are capable of.

Prior to the 60's for every Jesse Owens we had a Bobby Morrow, with white sprinters winning the 52, 56 and 60 Olympic 100m. Then here came Bullet Bob Hayes, Tommie Smith, Jim Hines, Charlie Greene and John Carlos they were on a whole other level than anything we had seen before, and there went the white sprinter more or less in America. They can't run 9.1 or sub 20.10, or a sub10.00.
This would be the all time USA paleface 100m.

If talking speed in football, a real case can be made for TCU RB Cy Leland way back in the day, he was WR9.4 man as the fastest paleface footballer ever. SMU's John Roderick did run a 9.3 but not a WR. Tim Dwight a 10.33 guy.
Army's Mr. Outside Glen Davis could cook with a 9.6 and Packer WR Don Hutson was a 9.8 in the 30's.
The SEC has never had a great white sprinter, Tennessee's Richmond Flowers was a hurdler. Well they might have one now in Boling, I do expect him be the first paleface USA sprinter to break 10.00, but not as as a frosh.
That 9.98 was windy, yep, not legal.

Here's the easy answer Whatley. Why do white guys appear in more "finals" and season rankings in the 200 than in the 100? Because the 200 is soft on the back end compared to the 100, that's why.
Quick takes in support of my argument? I'll use the two I spoke about already. Bobby Morrow ran 10.2 over 100, but also had the 200 world record (apparently, I haven't backed up your claim so I'm just going with what you said) at 20.6. 20.6 is SOFT compared to 10.2, and he even WON and set RECORDS with it.
Also, in regards to Kevin Little. You rattled off a bunch of his 20.50s/20.60s/20.70s to support your case. I'm not going to go dig for it, but from what I remember I believe he had a 10.14 100m PR. So, your own example makes a case for MY point: the 200 was a less deep event, Little saw that, so he went and won indoor races internationally (back when indoor still had some niche name recognition for a hot minute) and stuck with the distance because he could slip into finals at championship meets with 20.50s, but even a faster equivalent 100m dash would barely make semis, it maybe not at all
It's not so much that "whites" are better over 200 than 100. Its that's they are opportunistic. They typically have burgeoning sprint careers and, in an attempt to make it, they make a point to stick around the 200 where 20.40s and 20.60s could still get you lane 2 at a world championships.
God, you go on and on about all these names. Hell, I might have been faster than some of those guys and you don't know MY name. These names mean nothing, and I know that because mine means nothing. And it's because they were probably "succeeding" in rankings or making finals or some bologna in the 200 during their eras, but no one remembers them because they dont even remember the 4th place finisher of the 100m dash during their eras, which is the crown jewel event. It's the crown jewel event which means EVERYONE goes for it, whereas the 200 can often fall to the wayside for the "tweener" sprinters. So, it becomes a less deep event. And then a few more white guys with less than memorable careers take up a few more championship finals spots here and there.
Kudos to them, but...that is not proof that they were statistically, individually better, over 200 than 100. Just that their 20.55 could get them into a semifinal or final even internationally, but their 10.20 weeded them out of even the first round perhaps even nationally. 10.20 is better than 20.55, as far as I'm concerned. That's probably Kevin Little's whole career arch right there and he probably just quit entering over 100 to maximize his chances to exploit the softer 200 event.
This has always been the case, if you look up world and Olympic finals in the 200m you will see a head scratching finalist who really is a journeyman at the world level in the 100 but because of withdrawals and non entries "games" the system and makes a final as lane filler. These guys are both Black and White but realize what their level is in the 100.
Even Guliyev did this to a point, he easily could have ran in the 100 and probably made the semifinals and would have had a shot to make the final, but this would have probably cost in gold in 17' as his legs would have been heavier.
Why not register guy, why hide?
