Geeks. Geeeeeks!!
Also pewow great advice. But RRR will not crawl. When I got out of the army was no dice on the crawl. But a low low crawl where the helmet can’t leave the dirt... is an insane workout. Works every muscle of the body.

Sounds like a personal issue. Also, you might want to discuss with your doctor...

started working in the field on wednesday(continuing most days for the near future) and am on my feet in steel toed shoes all day, legs have felt trashed everyday. I imagine I will get used to it and be able to have some quality again, but I'm not there yet

Looking like Boston 2018 conditions for the 8k tomorrow. 40degF, 100% chance of rain & snow, 20mph winds. Have these notes in my training log from an XC race last fall that I just wore split shorts & singlet for
Training Log
Weather was mid 40s, raining and 20mph winds... felt like my legs were locking up from the cold... Cross the finish line in 18:11 defeated and shivering... I probably could have dressed warmer for the race
I'm thinking half tights (Brooks thermal-wind boxers under tights??), long sleeve craft base layer and gloves for the race tomorrow. Going to bring an extra pair of socks in case my feet get wet warming up and keep my flats in a plastic bag.
Any advice? I'm probably unnecessarily worried about this.
Fore me as Long as I keep my Head-Hands-Legs warm I am gold.. My core never gets cold so have never raced in long sleeve shirt out will sometimes wear arm sleeves. RRR doesnt like anything over his shoulders so rarely ever even wears a shirt that doesnt have the sleeves whacked off (as people on this board can attest to)
Suns out guns out

So....the good news is that part of what made Boston 2018 so tough was a) we had to sit out in Athlete's village forever; b) we were all running for more than 2 hours (and more than 3 hours in my case); and c) we were running at an effort level that didn't generate much heat. None of those will apply to you.
You'll be out there much less time, and running at a harder intensity that will generate more heat.
I think that what you're wearing sounds good. I'd consider running with latex gloves to keep the hands dry. I personally would always go with shorts over tights in that weather (I don't have half-tights). I'd also wear a hat to keep the rain out of my face, but that's my personal preference. (if you do, wear one you don't like, so if it gets blown off your head mid-race, you're not tempted to stop and grab it).

Off work early today. Now I can really focus on worrying about the weather full time until Sunday.
Runner Sam: Ever try the New Balance steel toes? Basically a toe cap inside one of their walking shoe models. Lighter than a boot, very heavy for a running shoe.
Shorts over tights is the LRC version of a crime against humanity.

Quick race result
27:27 8k by my watch which is a 22sec PR.
Snowing not raining which was nice. Came through 3 miles on 27:00 pace but just didn't have that in me today.
Nice job on the PR, pewow...and in the snow...nice.
Great job Pewow.
RRR has a great day to cap a good week. Having a can of suds on the garden terrace. Beautiful day here in God’s country.
Hope the evening finds you gentlemen and women well.
Congrats on the result, pewow, but I love the effort even more. Laying it out there early. Still holding on when it got tough. And in the MF snow. That’s how it’s done.
