I once ran a 7 mile trail race. Course had about 1000' of gain and drop, not too crazy. After a long cooldown, I was near the finish line as the 2nd-to-last place woman was finishing in ~2.25 hours. She was walking, and as soon as she saw the finish, she started sprinting. She was filming herself via a go pro on a selfie stick and sprinted across the finish screaming something about "Endurance Tourism!" I wish I were making this up, but I'm not. It was really awkward.

People pooling around the finish line of a road 5K comparing Garmin measurements and complaining that the course was long by 0.0x miles, which is why they didn't PR or something like that. Gets even better when they go raid the race director with their foil blankets and fuel belts to tear them a new one.
First, why are you genuinely angry about this, and second, don't you realize you probably didn't run the shortest route?

This was dialogue, I’m pretty sure. Imagine someone actually saying that.

Sh!t. That was me (or easily could've been). That's actually a perfect description of what I did after setting a 10-second 1600 PB. I was so happy I actually felt no self awareness whatsoever until about 15 mins later when I began to realize how cringey that must've been for everyone else at the finish line. Fvck.

Pretty much all of the replies and posts on this site have become cringe worthy over the years...too bad.
I cringe when some nobody hobbyjogger who happened to have been a college runner describes himself as "elite."
"Work smarter, not harder." I've never understood why the two need to be mutually exclusive. I've always just viewed that as a cop out for lazy people when they don't want to work hard.
When a slower runner tells a faster runner, he would be better off doing less junk mileage and more quality.

I realised I wasn't interested in running faster just further.
