Help. What the heck type of animal has invaded my house? Update: We've caught something

But if one was going to kill it, how would you shoot into the trap? What type of gun would you use? Shotgun, rifle pistol? I'd be afraid of a ricochet. and then wouldnt' their be blood all over the place?

Yes, but my man card is barely in m pocket, my hunting experience consists of skeet and a few small birds.

I actually think I'm 'manly' enough (i hate that term, should we say handy) to catch the racoon in a trap but if I let him go nearby he'll come back. The guy was going to fence the area off but it's a lot of space. The area where the animal isnt' really a deck. But he gets there by going under our wood deck in the back. Our house is on a hill so there is a whole story that basically would have to be fenced off better.

So you are going to pay 375 every time a raccoon moves in? That's going to be a weekly thing.

As much as I like to handle these things myself, there is a risk of rabies for sure...

Traps are set. One small one and one big one. He's using sugar wafers as bait.

Small one (you can see the whole where he gets under)

Bait: I saw a squirrel outside the cage trying to eat it, hopefully he or she doesn't get trapped.

Folks, not sure if you saw the live broadcast. I looked out my office and saw a redfox coming down the hill. It immediately stopped and started hunting, looking at the trap. It then attacked the trap as something was in there.

Ahem, blocking off a "hole" is not as effective as blocking off the "whole" house.

This is a regular thing in rural PA. A .22 caliber rifle or pistol will do the job with no ill effects and minimum clean up.
