If we consider a debut a finish then Jones and Lopes were also both under 2:09.

Exactly. The marathon was a bit of a joke then. Drayton being within a minute of the "WR" is meaningless since Kenyans and Ethiopians weren't exactly going to run major races in droves in 1975.

Levins debuted within 8 minutes of a legitimate, hotly pursued WR. Drayton was within a minute of a soft, soft, soft WR.

Derek Clayton´s time has been disputed, as many claims the course was short.

Well first off, Cam is not a citizen of the USA as he is a Canadian from Vancouver Island in British Columbia. I would say that he would probably not be included in the "American" National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. I'm assuming that "American" is just the short name for USA considering that Canadians & Mexicans also are residents of North America.

Although Tim Hortons has slick marketing around hockey with feelgood stories, they are no longer Canadian and there is a slow, but steady groundswell going against them. They are owned by a Brazilian company, which is fine in its self, however, the company is ruthless.

Upon purchasing the brand, they put in their press release that nothing will change (paraphrasing) to do with staff or product.

I had very rarely frequented Tim Horton's myself, so can't confirm this but apparently, the food is of lesser quality and the coffee is not as good as it used to be. And even that is a tolerable thing - taste is a personal thing - but a few weeks or months after the release - I forget now - the public company henchmen walked into Tim Horton's head office in Toronto and summarily walked out 350 staff without notice.

When you have to answer to a bottom line first and foremost, you lose sight of what got you to the top.

I also happen to know that their franchisees had a thing going where they would take advantage of a government subsidy that the feds would pay half of a "special needs" employee's salary to motivate business people to hire the special needs. Sounds wonderful, except when their entire service staff in some locations is special needs you are taking advantage of a system.

I'd take a Starbucks over Tim Horton's anytime. But first I would choose local.

Cam's run was a smartly run race and he clearly kept self-control when he was well back of the front pack at 10K and kept that distance. So in that case, I can see him running a 2:07 in London/Chicago/Berlin next year and then who knows!!

Marathon is weird. Imagine a well developed country with a decent history in running producing a new national record in the mile and the headline reading 'Bob Bobson SMASHES 43 year old Bobvanian record with 3:57.8 !!!'

This is so insanely far off WR pace I don't even know why it's being discussed.

It's a big deal to Canadians and given it was a 43-year old record, it deserves to at least three exclamation marks.

Cam Levins is a former LR hero who went from an also ran in the NCAAs to NCAA champ by running mega mileage: 3 times per day and 30+ days. That's why. And it's faster than all the Americans this year except Rupp. Also making it noteworthy given that this bored consists primarily of Americans. Also he's white.

That's really good news. Levins was a message board legend in college when he ran incredible times for Southern Utah on close to 200 mpw before cutting mileage and credibility by joining NOP. He ran some fine times but struggled for years with injury and so even though this is not close to what his ceiling was as a marathoner back when he ran low 27, this is really sweet when someone comes back from years of underperforming or not racing to run a national record and break 2:10 soundly.

I hope we will see Cam Levins in the 10K at the 2019 world championship. It appears that Farah will run the 10K and then make up his mind whether to run the 10K in Japan or both the 10K and the marathon in the Olympics.

Very impressed to see him put this all together after the struggles of the last two seasons. He ran 13:26 in May of 2016 and then followed it up with these performances (and two 30min 10km's in 2017):
