Times have changed baby,
The marathon now has most of the money, and at times if there is any, all the glory.
There is no serious to the bone 10k guy that runs 28:50 that can run 2:20 on his sunday run, not in the US at least. It has been tried by several people that I know have thought that and they failed to even get close to breaking that time.
It seems more in a way that the people that run the 1500/5k/10k in the US are tri like. They can't step up to the big event and just want to be one of the top crappy runners in a weakass college open meet, or some race with mostly US runners in it. The marathons have the world class comp at several of them all across the country and guess what, anyone can race with the best on that day.
It sucks but track is going out, better jump on the road race/marathon wagon.
As for tri's, I always wanted to jump in one after a little bit of training and see how good the majority of these guys really were. It seems like there are a few people that I know of that have just gotten sponsered for all their gear and they really do not seem like they were that good of athletes, expecially not in running.
Agreed, the outfits are goofy, I would wear a padded running short under some half tights that would come off right out of the water.
There is just too much money to invest but maybe if I get some more money and I get hurt running another time or two and I will take on the tri guys and than the world.
