Maybe running the first half of a 100-mile race ~ 30 seconds per mile faster than the course record when it's like 90°F isn't a strong approach.

thank you jim for redefining the ultra sport with post 16' western states achievements...above poster great point about pacing how was this not brought up in his crew?

1.) Walms Crew probably great encouragement but less "yes men" which yields more/a

2.) Strategy

Even with a carb taper and slow burning fat strategy you cannot expect to be dynamic and operate in this 100mi distance with random 530 mile

What is significant is his fueling strategy and pacing. Those two adressed will take care of 14 what?

I'm totally okej with someone who's giving it a go and blows up almost every time - so what if he's using this sub-14 tactic the next ten years and doesn't nail it until year 11?

All of the Apollo launches were well-planned steps towards the ultimate goal: to put a man on the moon. It wasn´t like the first 10 rockets exploded and people said: "Oh, well. Sooner or later, we´ll succeed."

Sorry make 2016 with the big breakout. He wasn't very good at ultras in 2015 like getting 5th at Lake Sonoma and fading hard from the lead early in races like that.

He should go be a marathoner and run 'just run 209' like its a walk in the park. No respect for distance running.

Or, if he mega implodes and never sees the finish line. He could do as he has done in the past two WS runs and manage to cover just five miles in greater than two hours. A four marathon is his to be had.

Nope... Walmsley lost his way because he was mentally out of it. So out of it that he sat down for more than an hour once he realized he was off course. Then he walked the rest and got chicked. That result was from going out much to fast the first half of the race. He needs to learn to run smarter than he did, and take something to help keep from bonking and ending up a running zombie.
