in that link it talks about her INTERNAL TESTES, and how her testosterone was 3 times higher than a "normal" womens, and mens T levels are 10 times higher that "normal" womens.......so when marion jones was juicing to the gills and not getting caught what was her T levels???

As the threat to Rowbury and others' medal chances looms larger with every Semenya victory, Rowbury and her advisers have carved out a specific position. She was well prepped for the question. What she says should be received as the press release that, quite literally, it is.

to me, the iaaf actually got this right. have a max testosterone level for someone competing in women's events.

they set it a 3X the amount of testosterone present in 99% of women, or 10 nmol/L.

i actually think that's too high, but would want to see the frequency distribution of testosterone in men and women before judging the female threshold.

if your testosterone is below the threshold and your birth cert says female, you should be allowed to race against other females. no need for physicals, inspections, etc.

the problem is that CAS overturned this very practical rule. now the stuff has hit the fan and the athletes in question are running ridiculous times.

it also opens up a pandora's box. for example, if i'm jenny simpson, can i bring my testosterone level up to semenya's? if no, why not?

The real "problem" with Caster Semenya competing with other women (or non-hermaphrodite-women) at the highest level of professional sport is that professional sport at the highest level has become too important, too big politics and too big business (though the athletes aren't always the ones cashing in, especially in track and field) and overall matters too much in our society.

Shannon Rowbury's success in life shouldn't depend on whether she wins an Olympic medal. But unfortunately, to a great extent it does.

Maybe, but that's far from certain. I've read that her condition is not that rare in the part of Africa she is from. It's not far-fetched to imagine coaches combing the region looking for others with similar athletic potential, especially if the payoff is great enough.

My point is, the stakes have become too high. Otherwise, she would simply compete, win a lot, and then retire, and as you say it wouldn't happen again for a long time, and it wouldn't be an issue any of us would be arguing over, or probably even aware of.

The most likely condition that Semenya has assuming the speculation about her is correct is called Partial Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome which means that she is XY

i searched and found that all the disorders are a 99% chance it seemed that they have negative aspects thus making caster a "freak" since she is not some feeble weakling with webbed feet and a chinless face like turners syndrome, she doesnt sound like she has mental disabilities like most of the disorders are prone to, she isnt short and shaped strange. she is healthy not frail.

If you are Jenny Simpson you cannot use exogenous testosterone, and neither can anyone else because exogenous testosterone is a PED that is banned by WADA. It's no different than Ryan Hall not being allowed to take exogenous testosterone to bring himself up to "normal" levels. Athletes are not allowed to dope to bring themselves up to the level of a more naturally gifted athlete.

The issue with Semenya (assuming reports are accurate) is endogenous testosterone naturally produced by her body.

If the issue were exogenous doping, the answer would be simple. Since high testosterone levels are a natural condition for Semenya, the issue is much harder. It requires defining the criteria for separating male and female athletes.
