trackhead,
i've been transitioning to ds trainers from 2080s and the like. it's definitely been beneficial to my overall goal of making my muscles and tendons stronger and longer. i agree with most of your arguments, but i think the hunter/gatherer issue comes off as somewhat fanatical. although, as a biologist i feel it has merit. i think we can let lydiard have the final say in that "you should race what you train in." his description of the perfect training shoe is much like what you depict. in this, i'm surprised at how much criticism you recieve. i definitely feel you're sincere in your purpose. i think it's really good that you emphasize a transition period in allowing your body to adapt to less shoe. that's something lydiard didn't even do in saying that you can take a sedentary person and get them up to 100 miles a week in 10 weeks... that being said, i live in boston where there are ridiculus amounts of runners. yes, many are recreational joggers, but many i would consider pretty hardcore. however, i never see ANYONE running in the H streets that you have talked up so much! frankly, the only people i see in this shoe are on newbury st with small dogs in louie viton bags! where are all you H street runners anyway???
