This comment and the more sensible follow up are right on the mark. How long before we see the light and get rid of football and boxing in this country? (Not soon enough, but the money says it will take eons) Boxing wasn't bad enough now we have to add all this other crap UFC,etc in the name of "sport"?

I don't think Manning did HGH or any illegal drugs during his professional playing career. He cleared everything through his personal doctor and the team doctors and trainers. There's never been any PED smoke around Manning that I can recall, unlike Lance or Ben Johnson or even the steroid era in baseball. Other than A-Rod who admitted he went to an anti-aging clinic in Florida, the Federal cases against Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens went nowhere.

The NFL didn't have HGH testing until 2014, three years after the alleged incident took place. So even if Manning did take HGH there is little the NFL can do to him now since the league didn't test for it back then.

I think this will die down pretty quickly once AlJazeera is sued by Manning and other players for defamation.

the sad thing is that HGH therapy would most likely be the best option to help his neck heal. Instead he's flying all over the globe trying any quack therapy that just happens to not be on some random banned list.

All sports are armpit-deep in drugs. C'est la vie.

Accept it and follow Div. III schools or local amateur competition if you must or get into ultra-events.

388 more days and Obama is out of office.

A lawsuit would extend the life of this, not reduce it. Look at the Brady/NFL fiasco, for example.

Why is he doing/saying that? "No truth" to "any statement"... That's pretty extreme... Nothing he said was true. Wow... That's a funny statement...

This is absolutely what is needed. We got laws to criminalize Marijuana, but nothing to criminalize doping (i.e. not just getting illegal steroids but using them to defraud the competition out of potential earnings). Marijuana should probably be legalized (but still controlled to usage in private and sales controlled to locations that don't allow minors).

The resources that could be saved by legalization of Marijuana could then be used to catch dopers, could you image the opportunities? You would potentially be able to use jail threats, under oath testimony, to get people to confess with full disclosures and throw other cheaters under the bus. You could have police do actual investigations with search warrants and actually seize documents leading to more arrests. You would only need to prove "beyond a reasonable doubt" to get convictions.

Right now, all we got is random positive tests, no investigations, no controls on the suppliers, no real punishments as people keep all there past earnings and get no jail time.

Basically with the way it is now the testing has become just part of the game you have to beat, like taking a foul at the end of game or taking a pass interference to stop a sure touchdown.

Ok, this morning, with the holidays over, I got a chance to watch the documentary and have just done so. I'll probably write some sort of recap up of the whole thing for the front page as it's clear most people haven't watch the whole show, but here's a quick version. Basically, they got a 37-year old British Hurdler Liam Collins to go under cover and talk to people in the PED world.As shown here ( http://goo.gl/VSsi8k ), Collins got in trouble in Britain defrauding investors out of £874,000. Some, including Manning's agent, have used that to discredit the guy but I don't see how it discredits anything in the show as the show is 100% based on video recordings Collins took of people talking to him about PEDs.Collins is apparently writing a book on Tim Montgomery and the show started by them going to Bahamas where Montgomery says he first got his PEDs. I actually thought the Bahamas part was encouraging for the anti-doping movement. The doctor that Montgomery says provided him with illegal PEDs wouldn't do it and said he no longer does that type of stuff. He did give Collins the name of another doctor who said he could get him EPO. That doctor said he had worked with some of the Golden Girls (the 2000 4 x 100 gold medal winning team) but said he didn't give them PEDs.Anyway, most of the show revolves around Collins interacting with an Austin, TX pharmacist by the name of Charlie Sly. Sly was best friends in HS with NFL player Dustin Keller. Sly says he doped Keller, Ryan Howard, Ryan Zimmerman, James Harrison and 10-12 Green Bay Packers including Mike Neal who helped him get hooked up with the team. Sly says they all use a steroid named Delta2 which you can order over the Internet. Additionally, Slay says he was training to be a pharmacist, he worked at an anti-aging clinic in Indianapolis where Payton Manning was a patient during the year Manning missed the season with a neck injury. Sly says that Dr. Dale Guyer was constantly sending HGH to Payton Manning's wife. HGH is a very tightly controlled drug that isn't allowed to be proscribed off label. Basically you can only use the drug if you suffered from growth hormone problems as a kid, had cancer or AIDS and the implication was that none of those apply to Payton or his wife and the implication in the report was that it was sent in Ashley Manning's name for Payton's use although I don't think that was never directly stated.So basically you have Charlie Sly saying he did all of this stuff. Now Sly has recanted.

1) Sly's denial is clearly read from a teleprompter. Of course, he is trying to cover his ass. You can watch his 54-second statement here.

2) Some of what Sly says is clearly true. He clearly has access to Delta2 and the show includes a confession by a Sly client, MLB player of Taylor Teagarden, on camera. Teagarden is shown saying he used Delta2 last year.

3) Sly says he got into this because of his work with his HS friend Dustin Keller who now is in the NFL. This seems likely to me as the Washington Post has a story out saying that Keller was described as one of Sly's best friends in HS back in 2008 by the the Lafayette Journal and Courier.

So in the end, what did we learn? At a minimum, we learned that it's still easy to find shady medical/therapist type people that will help you get illegal drugs. We learned that Taylor Teagarden uses it for sure.

We don't know for a fact that the others use it but I'd bet my life that at least some of them do.

This isn't all made up for a number of reasons. 1) We know Teagarden uses it. 2) We know that Mike Neal served a 4-game ban in 2012 for PEDs so the thought that he still might be using is far from a shocking allegation 3) We know that Dustin Keller was great friends with Sly.

They said on ESPN that Sly never worked with the Manning's and he worked their for a short time in 2013 which is 2 years after Payton went their in 2011. That part makes it hard to believe the Payton Manning portion of it in it's entirety. I'm also not even that bothered by a guy taking HGH while going through multiple neck surgeries.

It's been pointed out to me that the Manning's have never denied Ashley got HGH. It's quite possible she could have been taking it to look younger (which would be illegal but pretty common at anti-aging clinics). Manning is a patient there getting treatment and the doc says, "Hey, honey, you want to look better. I can get you some HGH."

Has already jazerra testes the vial that had the delta 2 in it, that seems like a big part of the story, that they didn't verify? What is Delta 2, the clear, reinvented?

It's totally possible that Collins is being threatened by someone on the Manning side, right? We saw the Salazar and Armstrong camps threatened plenty of people - there's no reason to think it couldn't happen here, though it surely wouldn't come directly from Peyton. Hell, the NFL threatened Will Smith when he was doing his concussion research (partially joking here with the reference).

That threatening could play a part in him recanting his statements.

For those who pointed out there has not been a smoking gun around Peyton like there was with Ben Johnson and Lance - their sports were much more scrutinized for doping than football is. However there has definitely been widespread doping in the NFL (to not think so is naive) but there hasn't been nearly as much media coverage on it. Maybe that's coming....

Though you might be underrating PED use in D3 and amateur endurance sports. D3 football, for example, you will find many users.

No one cares if an athlete is using or not, it's only when a few nannies get their panties in a twist when the media goes into hyperventilation mode.

If she was actually using HGH she better own up to it for Peyton's sake. They have a lot more to lose from people thinking he took it than from knowing she took it.

Collins didn't recant anything. Collins simply went undercover and videotaped other people talking about all of the people they've doped.

It amazes me that people will speculate about what they haven't watched. Please watch the program. Sly is the one who has recanted everything which is absurd because some of it is obvioulsy true.

I'm most pleased this is putting heat on the NFL. I loved this paragraph from the NY Times although I think it's a little over the top:
