VP was nearly perfect. He played an unexpected creative role at times, and had 2 poor chances that he came up with brilliant goals from. His only other chance was offside (but a nice volley).
If I remember correctly, didn't Robben miss a chance because he refused to touch the ball with his right foot?

I don't want to criticise RVP but he was anonymous before he scored his first goal. He came alive in the second half. Robben was instrumental in his performance as he pulls defenders away from RVP. Robben was a threat from his own half. They both played as strikers today and showed how different they are.
RVP is an all out No.9 where as Robben is a winger and more of a creator and danger from deep, RVP is lethal around the box. They were both brilliant and make a lethal striking duo. I just think Robben deserves as much credit as RVP. RVP has been known to shy away from his right foot too.
Robben and RvP make each other better. When both of them are playing well they're lethal, like in the second half. The big difference may have been Sneijder - he was awful in the first half. In the second half he was working hard and closing down the opponent, which allowed the wingers to come forward more. I usually find Sneijder to be too selfish and moody so to see him work so hard for the team in the second half was great, and full credit to van Gaal here. Another huge performer today was Daley Blind. The Spaniards couldn't deal with him at all.

Second game tomorrow against France.
Costa rica beat Uruguay 3-1. The first major upset of this world cup. England v Italy next, cracking game.
Italy go 1 up through Marchisio. Sturidge equalizes within two minutes.
That's actually the second major upset. The Netherlands (a strong team, finalists last time) beat a Spanish team that had dominated everything for about six years, including the 2010 final against the Dutch, and handily. Now this Costa Rica victory is a terrific thing for CONCACAF members like the U.S. and Mexico (which beat Cameroon, another strong victory). Uruguay had won the last cup in Brazil and was thought to be one of the favorites here, after going to the semis in 2014 against Holland. (Last time, 4 of the final 8 were from South America--Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, and Argentina).
