The 800m is the furthest a runner can run on 'pure hate'. This is common LRC literature.

I would hypothesize that since love and hate are polar opposites, that running on 'pure love' would include a distance that is polar opposite of 'pure hate' which could include 100milers, marathons and or 10ks.

If Schumacher can't get Bairu (who is MADE for the marathon), through the distance, how is Solinsky going to do it?

As has been stated, running on hate is very effective for events with very high levels of lactate. For threshold and sub-threshold efforts, they are both solid choices.

However, too much competing on hate can lead to your peers turning against you.

Witness Lance Armstrong. Pure hate. Extremely effective, but led to his downfall. Contrast with Geb, who runs on pure love. He is Hailed (duh of course it's a pun) as a hero and liked by all.

I find it hard to believe he has to work on his speed to that degree. The fact that he ran a fastest ever practice 400 shows that he tipped things too far the other way.

Before the injury, he had run 3:35 at Mt. Sac as I recall and was one of the top US 1500 people. The fastest ever quarter says that he still has it. Like Rupp, he should move DOWN, not up. But he would need a different coach, I think.

Marathons are for slow people. Chris isn't one of them (yet).

When will white people accept the fact that when it comes to men, West Africans have the 100/200 locked down, East & North Africans have the 1500 and up locked down and only the 400/800 or a remote possibility?

Obviously Chris should move down or across to another sport where it's very cold and more muscle mass is an advantage. XC Skiing is ideal, Triathlon is #2. The 800 is his only choice as a runner.

Exactly what I was thinking. We got Wejo to run 2:58 after a 38:4x 10k. Using the same ratio with Chris's times will result in 2:04:30. That's way better than anyone coached by Schumacher has done! Heck, we should have been coaching Wejo at age 30, he would have run 2:09.

EXACTLY. Chris's biggest problem in 2011-2012 was trying to emaciate his body like Galen's.

Let the 40-year-olds prove they can do a marathon in their mid-life crisis, there's actually still some hope for Chris in a real sport.

Shumacher must have no clue about training. If there was any doubt, read that RW article. Fernandez isn't doing anything now. Shalane should have been under 2:19 with her 10k time, and can't even break 2:25. The only ones there doing anything have figured it out on their own.

This is misleading...he was won numerous HS and collegiate national titles...just not one as a pro
