If you think the prostitution system is only full of "freelancers," you need to read up on human trafficking. And if you think slavery was always and only lifelong, race-based indenturement, you need to read a history book.
Uncomfortable? Any human being who has an ounce of empathy about other human beings should be concerned about human trafficking. It's the modern slave system, but mostly underground and not merely outside the U.S.

And why is it underground? because prostitution is illegal in that jurisdiction.
If sex workers had basic rights, they could not be exploited. If being a sex worker was roughly equivalent to being a porn star - subject to OSHA requirements - there would be a lot less trafficking for the purposes of prostitution. Is there trafficking in the porn industry? No. These are professionals who have recourse. Same with strippers, etc.

drugs have a measurable detrimental effect on health. Sex does not. it actually prolongs life. so we should be encouraging people to have as much (protected) sex as possible. You cna promote safe sex by making prostitution legal. abstinence or, "sex within marriage" is a myth that has never occurred in human history.

Yeah, I don't understand why people think that women should be responsible for their actions. If a woman emotionally or physically abuses a man it is almost always the man's fault. Women have it so much harder than men. Women are barely even compensated for the centuries of patriarchal abuse by having an easier time getting a job, good education, government assistance, and consistently (if you're a white woman) getting the benefit of the doubt from authority figures. When a woman like SFH decides to publicly castrate her husband it is everyone's responsibility to emotionally support her in this tough time.

Trafficking occurs everywhere, regardless of the legal status of prostitution. It is spurious to claim that legalized prostitution alone increases the incidence of trafficking.
