You have it or you don't; its not a commodity to come into ownership of through a choice of will. I'm sure Dean could have manned up 10 years ago and shown us his top end at ~ 2:31, but that's not speed. Dean's a hack, bud.

Who saw him at the start area at all, even late? He would stick out to someone if he was at the start line 6 minutes late perhaps? Wouldn't there still be many people around 6 minutes after the start? Who saw him running a mile all by himself before he caught up to the back of the pack? The first runners he caught up with would surely remember him coming up from behind. Ask around to the slower runners or those with the last chip times. This wouldn't be hard to clear up. If he was at least in last place for a while and someone can vouch for that that helps...at least it would mean he didn't jump in further into the race.

What exactly is the board trying to prove here? That DK was trying to cheat his way to a glorious age group victory in a minor marathon? Whether he jumped in a mile from the start because he overslept or had actually been running late because of traffic construction, let's be clear: he was there as (a) an attraction, and (b) to get a trip to Hawaii written off as a work expense. He was not there as a true competitor giving his all to test his limits, etc. I don't see that we're dealing with another Kip Litton.

Can anyone verify their was road construction. Odd for the day of a marathon.

Odd he said he ran 4 miles to the start when his hotel was a mile away.

Odd he would be late so close to the start.

Odd he cut but still accepted an award.

Odd behavior.

Odd to be so muscular at 50+.

Most people could probably care less that he even showed up. It's the taking the award for a dishonest effort that I'm sure most have a problem with!

Now that he's been disqualified, whoever might have seen him cut the course (if he did cut the course) has no reason to come forward. Dean's already been punished about as much as he can be for this, and whoever goes on record saying that they saw Dean cut the course would have to endure his wrath, for no particular reason other than to make a point that most people already agree on: he's there to ham it up and put on a show, not to compete in any serious way.

Probably most telling in all of this is that they went from accepting his gun time (and basically taking the race "ambassador" at his word that he ran the full course), to disqualifying him (implicitly saying that they don't trust his word anymore). Doubtful that that would happen unless somebody saw and reported something fishy.

But in any case, if this is the sort of thing that is becoming habitual for him, now that he's getting older and it's getting tougher for him to break 4 hours in a marathon, people are going to be more aware of this behavior as a result of this discussion, and eventually, he'll get caught in a situation where he has no plausible excuses. (Unless, like Lance should have, he quits first . . .)

I would say he's not guilty of the proposition implied in the thread subject, based on the evidence. The OP should withdraw the thread.
