You are responding to the wrong guy. Try Yo Man. I'm well aware of our young americans sub culture. It will, I do belive, die out with the next generation as does every rebellious fad. What better way in this day and age to get attention than to pretend your black? Every generation has to try and be more shocking than the next to get noticed. Its all about attention. The 50's had gressers with leather jackets and rock "N" roll. The 60's with Long hair and LSD. The 70's with punk rock, glam rock, and Alice Cooper with shock rock. The 80's with heavy metal,and everything in between. The 90's crack cocain,and grunge. Now that everything has been done, what could possibly be left for teens to get noticed? The year 2000, be black! I dont care one way or the other. Then most people grow up and see that they have to pay bills, and make a living like everyone else. Then THEY have kids, and it all starts all over again. Teens always have to scream ("Hey Everybody look at me!! I know everything! and I'm special and I got life all figured out!! I'm so much smarter than my stupid parents and everybody over the age of 30) I know more than the people who walked in my shoes"!!) Oh well, KIDS. I was one too.

Yes it is; however, I never got to read the article myself. I went out to find a copy of the magazine and was too late as the next week issue was out.
Why can't a white guy when a sprinting event with out it being weird, we are all the same ain't we? we'll some of ya'll don't think so but we are and jeremy wariner proved that any race of people can be the best in the world, I'm a white 400m runner im a sophmore in high school an i win races all the time my feshmen year i went 8-2 ing the season in the 400m mean that i got 1st place 8 times and didn't 2 times and the guy who won our region was white, i finished 5th and i went 4-2 in open meets and only reason they won is that they got an age avantage on me but that is just life but it had nothing to do with me being white i was racing 17 and 18 year olds and im only 15 so that just fine and dandy when it comes to that and like i said before it had nothing to do with me being white and im not that matured body wise that is im 6'0 and 148 pounds but i only 4% body fat so im a lean runner and also jeremy wariner is also how good you are depends how hard you train and work. but anyways some of ya'll are being really stupid about jeremy wariner being white, racist if you ask me.
As a white sprinter and a suburban backround I really look up to Jeremy. It shouldn't be a racial issue but the fact of the matter is that Jeremy Wariner is the first white man to win or place in a sprinting event in 50 years. That should be a statistic that is important. If you were to ask Jeremy about the color barrier of sprinting he would humbly reply that race has nothing to do with talent. I think that we should praise Jeremy for his talent and age. Not to put him on a pedistool because of his color.

I just counted up the # of white medalists in the mens 100/200/400 in the last 50 years ( 1956 through 2004 OG's.

Admittedly it has thinned out quite a bit since 1980 ( only 3 plus Jeremy) but there you have it.
every hyper-sensitive black out there sends you black guys back a hundred years- and it disrespectful to blacks who had/have real challenges in life. Does this really offend you? I thinbk whites should find inspiration in someone who looks like them- just as I think Blacks should rally around Obama....they do right? I feel great that the best 400 guy in the world is white, and I'm sure blacks feel great that LeBron is doing well- nothing about race- just pride. Pride is positive. Vpam- you're an a-hole.

It is a big deal to me because I run the 400 and I am white. The fact that he is white should not be a big deal but it is. A lot of people would say that the black runners would beat me just because they were black even when I was ranked number 1. That was not the case however because I did win! But i think the fact that jeremy wariner is white is more of a statement that says white people can be just as good at sprints as a black person, and thinking that does not make you racist because i am not racist, and sports should not be about your race it should be about athletic ability and nothing more.
If you are white, and you are a young sprinter who never saw a white person win olympic gold in a sprint before, then Jeremy's win is going to be inspirational to you if you have ANY heart at all. It's not racist it's just real.
All of you p/c communists can stick it. By the way, it's not racist to be proud of your identity, your culture, or your ethnicity or your RACIAL BACKGROUND as long as you realize that you ARE obligated to respect the backrounds of others. Just about every ethnic group in the United States can form some sort of means of banding themselves together politically, but when white americans even mention the idea of doing so in the name of their ethnicity, it's a taboo. (considering most white americans are of a mixed european background yes WE CAN BE considered an ethnic group, stop fooling yourselves) People react as if it's the third reich or something, and I don't think that's the situation any sane person wants. If it's just another means of promoting diversity then what is more American than that? The melting pot is a part of diversity, not the other way around. You can not deny individuals the right to community, as long as it isn't one that's going to attack the rights of individuals within the larger community of which it is an equal partner.
Anyway, I'm sorry to turn this into a political forum, but I needed to speak my point of view.
i feel the same way. it is ok to be proud of your race/ethnic group/culture as long as you respect others. But it only seems to be a problem when white america voices their opion on being proud of another white american. This is reverse discrimination. Ex: I am a college student and their are several groups exclusively for african-americans (i.e. black nursing students association, black business students association, etc.) I have no problem with this at all. What I do have a problem with is the fact that when me and a few of my friends wanted to start our own business group (for caucasians), it was prohibited on the basis of discrimination by the dean of the college.
Sounds like quite a double standard to me.
Wow!, blablabla I was just checking to see if any body had wrote anything after my last entry. This is really getting into some political thing but oh well. Now I'm not racist at all, i think it's just plumb stupid to hate somebody just because of their skin color, that's somethin you can't help. But if the government and all the high society people want equality among races then they need to make it equal. "Let well enough alone" quit pussifying the people because they were oppressed 150 years ago. Yeah I love running more than anything, but i just had to say what i think
