What an effing miracle...Solomon really went for it. Symmonds needs to clean up his tactics. Too much running in lane 2, and at one point even though he could have clearly slotted into lane one he let someone move up inside next to him.

No US runner in finals?
Both US runners in the final.
Symmonds and Solomon in!!!
That was awesome. Rudisha is the only finalist who is clearly better than Symmonds and Solomon. Hope the U.S. can get a medal out of this.

I'm really proud of Solomon for qualifying both of them.
Think About It wrote: THAT WAS BRILLIANT! Can't believe it worked out so perfectly.
Not so BRILLIANT. Symmonds was sweating bullets. Could have been out. Left to heat 3 to determine his fate.
Both Americans make it through. Going to be hard for them to medal but they are in the race at least.
Phew! Symmonds and Solomon both into the final on the little q. Thank God for the little q.
Both US runners in!!

Can't see either of them winning a medal.
Rudisha is a lock
Aman looks clear 2nd
Kitum/Amos/Kaki for bronze
Most likely true. Our best shot for a medal is probably for Solomon to take it out and then get in everyone's way while he's dying. Then Symmonds can come up and steal bronze. We'll see though. The 800 is a strange race, and weird things can happen. I'm just excited that we have 2 guys in the Olympic final.

This is true. They can mail the gold to Rudisha, but all seven of the other guys can medal. I can't wait...
And thank God for illegal, pirate feeds. The official NBC feed was buffering 80% of the time. And it's behind!
Symmonds' run was just terrible. Went straight to the back and then tried to make it up on the turns. He let some other guy pass him on the inside with 200 to go too.
It was obvious that Solomon didn't want to lead, but when he found himself in front, he went for it. Not a bad tactic for the semi's, and he didn't look too bad until the last 50 meters. He definitely needs readjust for the final.
If both of these guys can change their tactics, they could be looking at a bronze. Nobody is beating Rudisha, and Aman looked good as well. However, nobody else really looked unbeatable, as Kaki pretty much ran what Solomon did but closed just a bit faster.

That's the way I see it. Aman and Kaki are good, but I think both silver and bronze are in play for Solomon and Symmonds.
for everyone who always b*tches about how Symmonds hangs back too much and never front-runs, where are you at now? second at the bell right behind Rudisha -great right? hell no, he really struggled to bring it home...you could tell he looked uncomfortable in that position, but it was obvious he planned to run that type of race & not leave anything to chance the way he moved into second at the bell.
now that he's through I hope he runs more of a "traditional" Symmonds' race, hanging back in 6-8th and making a move with 250m to go & picking off people deaccelerating in the last 150m from chasing Rudisha too hard. i think a bronze might be in reach.

Are you high? or did you just not watch the race?
If it was easy, everyone could do it, right?
Mohammed Aman ETH 1:44.34 Q
David Rudisha KEN 1:44.35 Q
Abubaker Kaki SUD 1:44.51 Q
Nijel Amos BOT 1:44.54 Q
Timothy Kitum KEN 1:44.63 Q
Andrew Osagie GBR 1:44.74 Q
Nick Symmonds USA 1:44.87 q
Duane Solomon USA 1:44.93 q
watch out for solomon especially if rudisha goes out and runs wire to wire.
If rudisha goes through in 49 high or 50 low solomon would love to be right behind him and drafting then trying to hold on similar to the way he ran the trials.

The Symmonds-bashing is out of control. He was way more aggressive in this race, avoided a lot of the potential for a fall, and basically ended up on Rudisha's hip with 100 meters to go. If the British guy (PR 1:44.48) doesn't run out of his mind, Symmonds goes through automatically. As it stands, he did enough to qualify on time in a pretty much unprecedented situation in which all three semifinals went out hard. Maybe we should concede the fact that he kind of knows what he's doing.
