I don't agree with much of that last post, but certainly do agree about this very subpar Kenyan team. The Kenyans showed they can run by cannot RACE. The last time their track distance runners really worked as a team effectively was Edmonton 2001- they destroyed the Ethiopians that year.

Rupp is the real deal and barring injury, has a great chance to be world champ at one or both of the next WC. He continues to improve. Now all he needs to do is believe that he is the man and run like it. He keeps spotting Farah 2 meters at the beginning of the last 400. He is now ready to do it himself and make others beat him.

Ridiculous. Rupp manhandled the 10k field at the trials and made it look like he was racing a bunch of retarded chimpanzees with pretzels shoved up their butt holes.
He was easily in 27:00 shape that day, if not closer to 26:40.
He was probably in equal to slightly better shape than K Bekele tonight, with a better kick.

Well, Not taking it from those who don't but when you level the playing field from EPO or other stimulants, you get a brilliant race, great the UK put a shudder in drug use for this event hopefully, that’s why we got a awesome race. And its result is self explanatory just a good mix of nationalities. Well done Mo and Rupp!!!! And all those who put their true all in this 10000m you made it a real race we spectators could enjoy.

if you found the race boring then exciting must be in the eye of the beholder.
by the finish my pulse was 180 plus.
having watched "closely" rupp and salazar for many years, watching them catch up to the africans, slowly, slowly and seeing the dam ready to burst. and then "having to bet" rupp for silver and moe gold, well that' scenario creates a very sharp eye for the subtleties of the race.
you had the various teams vying - ken - eth - etr - al-sal all with a cunning plan? - you never knew who was going to uncork what at any time. it was like a tease with a very beautiful girl, she shows a bit of this, bit of that, until you're crazy. and then with 2 laps to go, you go in for real!! and you're primed max.
i have a long list of pet peeves and expected bad coverage, bad announcing, crap everything you know like NBC, american TV that i was brought up on and gave up on many years ago.
then a miracle happened, someone got a hold of my (our) pet peeve list and went through it meticulously. i could not believe my eyes and ears...EVERYTHING IS FANTASTIC.

I am legally blind and as a result, I have never seen Mr. Rupp's name in print. I apologize to him for not spelling his name correctly. I am left to wonder what would motivate someone to feel moved to call me and one other contributor "douche bags" and "not real fans" because of a spelling error. I suppose some people are always angry and unhappy. I can not speak for the other contributor who agreed with me, but I have been a fan since 1968. Thank you.

Much praise to Mo Farah, Galen Rupp, and Alberto for delivering high performance on the day--but the Africans gave them this race on a plate. 14:05, 22:15, 25:01,
and still only a 1:55 last 800 and 53:48 final lap. Many Olympic Men's 10,000s have been greater, more complete races for the distance. Let's hope for a true test and really great performances in the 5000. That one may be fierce for most of its distance.
1) Rupp is world class and can beat anyone on any given day. There was a moment with about 100m to go that I thought he was going to catch Farah. Rupp-haters now have to remain silent for the rest of their lives.
2) Salazar is elevated to the best living coach right now. If you want to win, you want him to be your coach.
3) The Africans have out-trained us for years. This race shows that a talented American runner with the proper training and peaking can beat them in a race when it matters the most.
4) Congratulations to Farah, Rupp and Salazar. They proved that they are best in the world right now.

Kozz makes good points. I'm not sure why you call his post idiotic. The only chance to beat Mo and Rupp was to run the kick out of them. Any casual follower of distance runner would know that. Running such a slow race simply turns the race into a last lap for the best sprinters.I'd like to see both of them (Mo and Rupp) kick at circa 27 pace against the best.
This was the slowest 10000m final since 1992;that's ridiculous!
I felt like a huge baby crying in front of my teammates but that race got me emotional your an idiot if you still have doubts about Rupp

His post and response were idiotic as anyone who truly follows the sport would know. Rupp's speed and overall fitness have improved over last year when he ran 26:48. The fact that he has not run that fast this year means absolutely zippo. He has not run races for time, but to win. Period. His races this year were all geared to preparing for a peak in the race yesterday and they worked to perfection. I'd bet $1,000 this instant that if Rupp ran for time he could break 26:40 right now.
The time yesterday is meaningless. Why was it that slow? Because that was the strategy by the East Africans and Kenyans to try and win. Moderate pace followed by surges and then a negative split race and a fast last mile. All they did was serve themselves up to the two athletes who are at present the best in the world at the 10k.
Had the race been under 27 (by the way, no Olympic final has ever gone faster than 27:00. If it were, the two guys who finished first and second would still have finished first and second. They are the best at the distance in the world at present. They are both in the best shape of their lives and both could run personal bests right now in the 10k should they be motivated to try and found the right race with the right pacing.
