Probably the same two. Will and his little girlfriend or whatever she is think they are the bee's knees. Really pathetic and embarrassing.

he must blog each day. here is his blog for today recapping the event. he portray's it as a HUGE weekend with lots of teams and attendence and such. you can see in one of the pictures the stands are pretty empty.
The current rotation schedule for Club Nationals is East Coast (NY) - Midwest - East - West. So it's in NY every other year.
It's been tough because NYC is the only host that has been particularly successful, which is why the meet is there every other year, but the meet only coming to the midwest and west coasts once every four years doesn't encourage clubs in those areas to participate. You have to drop a lot of money to have a hope of placing high as a team. I think in recent years, Club NW and Team Nebraska have been the only non-east coast clubs who have consistently sent competitive teams.
It was really hot everywhere in the midwest and east coast this past weekend. It was 91 degrees on Randall's Island on Saturday, that's not _that_ much better than it was in Nebraska. Pretty much anywhere in the midwest and east coast runs the risk of being disgustingly hot in July. That's just how life goes.
The idea of moving the meet to May or early June is an interesting one. It would have some challenges though... USATF is really trying to build their regional championships, and most of those are held in that window. Also, I would be willing to bet that a significant percentage of Club Nationals participants are high school or college coaches. If you held the meet in May you'd have a lot of conflicts (also with facilities). If you had it in June, the last weekend you can qualify for USATFs, probably less conflicts, I think that idea has some merit.
To the person who suggested moving it one week earlier, then it would overlap with USAs, and that is never going to happen.
Someone asked about foreigners in the meet? For Club Track, you just have to have a green card, you do not need to be a US citizen. It's different rules than cross country.
I am hoping that we can host the meet in Seattle in 2014 on UW's new track. We had perfect weather over the weekend, mid to upper 70s and sunny, which is typical for early July.
Stop making excuses. Forget JULY! It's not college athletes we're dealing with it's mainly post-collegiate club athletes and club coaches.
How many times do people have to tell you guys? Someone had it right that later in May is when people will want to participate in this meet. Not steamy-ass July. People don't prefer to run track meets in July even if it's perfect out. In the US club scene it is no longer track season but base-building season.
It's the closed USATF mindset that doesn't really listen to people and thinks it knows what's best. How's that working out for us?
Early July--now THAT is a good time to have a meet in Seattle!
Screw Eugene in June.
I honestly have no idea what "Club Nats" are--does anybody go?
Nah it's still winter in early July up there.

Yes, how could I forget the splendor of that town that disguises itself as a city.
I bet it was a blast to run anything longer than a mile and inhale the bouquet of cow poop, anhydrous ammonia, car and truck exhaust, and crotch fungi among the denizens.
Go downtown and pick up some skank that will surely give you VD (Omaha has one of the highest rates of chlamydia in the country!)
He added to the club national recap. I think the word to describe it/him is: delusional. Wow.
thanks for the update. i do not know why i am following this thread, but it just entertains me.
can i bring up once again about him and his training partner experiencing hypothermia at grandma's marathon. i can't believe nobody has commented on it. who gets hypothermia when the temps are at 60 degrees? i would have loved the 60 degree temps at the marathons i ran.
and his "killer coach" workouts? who is this "killer coach" why does he insist the "runguru" do 40 400's. i couldn't help by laugh out loud when "runguru" blogged about it. "the best shape in my life and I owe it all to Killer Coach". Ha! the best shape in your life, runguru, only got you to 18 miles.
ok, i'm done. let me know what tomorrow's blog is about. i might check it to get a good chuckle. hope it's a good one. 40 x 400's. haha.
Who are you Uponfurtherreview? Killer coach is Glen van der Westhuizen who is a great coach who has coached his son Peter van der Westerhuizen and David Adams to national/world class times in both the 1500 and 3k steeplechase. Let us know who you are before you start talking shit. You're probably a 25 min. 5k guy who thinks he knows about the sport, but in reality knows nothing. I love when people like you get on these threads, talk shit but are slow in reality. Seems like insecurity to me.
And you probably spend your free time with UPorn.
Will is an interesting guy. I ran for Team Nebraska but wouldn't do it again if I could get a redo. Will's heart is in the right place but I think he takes things a little too seriously when it comes to working with a bunch of sub-elite wanabe's that really just want to have fun in a team setting (yes, there are a couple good current and past athletes associated with the team). I think Will forgets that his athletes are not elite and that making unreasonable demands of race directors for those athletes (whom are reasonable people) in the form of hissy fits does no one any favors. He has tried hard to expand the running community in Omaha but, again, his personality often works against him and he ends up setting hurting his goals instead of advancing them.
There is a second, loosely put together "team", in Omaha that is run but another oddball and it has been funny watching the sniping that goes on between those Will and the other dude.
The take away for me is that if I were to return to Omaha I would not associate with any teams and just enjoy running as a regular citizen.
Finally, "Who is this guy?", calm down, it will be alright.
Now you people know what we have to put up with in Omaha. Jesus Tap Dancing Christ...
Who is this Guy?,
Great coaches assign 40x400s in marathon training? Can't say i know much about the Vanderwwesthusens, but I know David Adams was a salty runner at Nebraska, and his results are probably more about what he did the last two years than what "Killer Coach" prescribes.
Finally, will calls himself Runguru and refers to his coach as Killer. That's really odd behavior. Take that into account when you get defensive.
whoa. settle down. don't be so defensive. this is just a message board. that's great that "killer coach" is coaching his son and david adams. i looked them up. they are legite runners who ran d1 at nebraska. with that being said, why would you have a master's guy do 40 400's? isn't that a little much for 40+ age guys? and "runguru's" training partner doing the same workout?
about being who i am. if you would have read my other posts in this thread, i said that i am the team who beat team nebraska at hospital hill. the only team that did that, would be??? look it up. so, no i am not a 25 min 5k guy who just thinks he knows stuff about the sport. i seem to know a little bit about running, hence that is why i check this site out. not being insecure at all. if you read my posts, you know these are facts, not make believe stories.
i just did some researching and found his blog. just commenting on it. plus, his race results do not lie. i looked him up. not too impressive for a person who talks big about being in such great shape. you would have to agree with me on that.
again, don't be so defensive.
thanks for the info OmaNO. will sounds like a love/hate guy, which is good and bad. there is another team in omaha? who are they? why didn't they compete this weekend? i would imagine having two teams in a small/medium town would be tough and probably have some strong feelings towards each other, both good/bad. this will be fun getting to know the running community in omaha. thanks for the information.

Ironically, you don't tell us who you are which is just as well because nobody cares.
Hey Coach D, I'm in the Sacramento area. Have been for a while now. There is no need to blatantly LIE about the conditions in Sacramento to make your point. This Sunday it was 105 at 5PM. Freaking hot. Last week it was averaging about 97, higher this week5. Two weeks ago, low 90s. It is NEVER in the 70s in the summer during the day. Sometimes about 75 at 9PM. Rare.
Eugene, OR should be a permanent place for our Olympic Trials.

funny, look like 35 total clubs with 14 OPEN clubs in nebraska. don't know how many did clubs.

Will probably did a very solid job with the Club Nats. You can't blame him for the USATF sucking as bad as it does. He is just trying to make lemons out of lemonade. He does an excellent job with his races and has a zealous passion for the sport. He does a good job of resourcing post-collegiate runners and providing them opportunities to develop.
Nobody locally takes him seriously as a runner, nor should they. His marathon in 2011 was a 4:15 and he quit after the halfway point in a recent marathon with perfect conditions. He boasts about his training (40 x 400, best shape of his life, 15 twenty milers or longer) and then doesn't deliver on race day. He speaks loudly and carries a small stick.
He is an odd man and his blog is bizarre. He calls out local runners and clubs and belittles them. His sees himself taking this Quixotic journey save the running community from itself whilst he and everybody else would be better off if he just minded his own business and specialized on his own little segment of the running world.
