Given (as stated in earlier posts) - IAAF rule 167 is clear
and USATF has no discretion in creating a tie-breaker it would seem like all of us posting should be contacting USATF and requesting they petition the IOC (?) to allow both runners to participate in the Women's 100 meter in London.

Sure, and if that is successful, I imagine they'll be a 5 way tie for 3rd place at the Kenyan 3000M steeplechase trials, the next time around.
Also you say the USATF has no discretion. According to the IAAF, they have discretion to send whoever they want. They scheduled runoff was not to break a 3rd place tie from the Trials, that will always remain a tie. It was to decide who gets to compete at the 100 in London.

the usatf being a member of the iaaf has to adhere to the iaaf rules.
shock her body to prepare it for the 200M? have you ever competed? all that running the 100M would do is to degrade her performance in the 200M!
felix would get a higher place in the 100M in London? How high? Certainly she cannot get in the top 3. So why fight to run the 100M? what is the point to this? why not be totally fresh for the 200M and increase your chances of getting that elusive 200M gold?
Janeba and her advisor are making a tremendous and IMMATURE mistake by abandoning the run-off. How about a little perspective here? There are essentially two types of fans and athletes in the world: (1) those that watch LeBron and Euro Cup, i.e. relevant/mainstream/major sports participants; and (2)niche/fringe/cult-like people like track & field athletes and LRC message board contributors. This kid not only participates in a fringe sport, but even worse, a fringe sport that only comes around once every four years for the handful of residents of this planet that even know T&F exists. This was her one shot at some potential visibility. Unfortunately, there are no such things as "principled stands" when you're part of sub-minor sport that no one is paying attention to. NO ONE CARES. Shut up and run your race. People care if the NFL has a strike. They really don't care about one event within one gender within one fringe sport. Simply childish to act like this is a major sport that demands a "major statement". She comes across as an out-of-touch, delusional child.
NYRunner...all those rounds in the 100 certainly hurt he performance in the 200 at the trials. Watch the coverage Boldin said countless times the 100 has been critical for improving her 200 starts.

I have been saying ALL ALONG that it was an extremely difficult read. The fact that it took several top officials this long to make a decision supports MY point, that it was not "OBVIOUSLY" a tie.

USATF wanted a tidy resolution to their incompetent display around this event. When I saw USATF, NBC and Nike pumping up the run-off while the athletes involved weren't agreed on the solution, I was simply disgusted. Good on her for turning this around.

Interestingly, the opinions of message board posters don't decide the women's 100m Olympic team. The women's 100m Olympic Trials final does. Tarmoh placed third. Felix, too.
USATF had no procedure in place for this obvious possibility. Embarrassing. They must be beyond stupid to just assume that professionals would accept some hack on-the-fly solution they made up behind closed doors.
Maybe if they hadn't trotted her around a victory lap and through a press conference WHILE REVIEWING THE RESULTS, she would have a bit more faith that USATF gives two sh!ts for her as an athlete and a professional. Remember, Tarmoh and her agent knew NOTHING about the situation until LETSRUN told them.

She ran her fastest 200 ever after 100 meter heats so saying it will degrade her performance doesn't seem a good argument.
Certainly she cannot get in the top 3? Certainly is a big word, she absolutely has shot to get top 3 in the hundred. Don't underestimate Allison Felix. Any 10.93 woman can certainly get top 3 on any given day.
I really wish you could have stated some arguments that made me think but all you did was make me realize how wrong you are.

i agree it is critical - i am not denying that. the 100M does sharpen you for the 200M. heck i competed nationally in 100M/200M and i can testify to this. However running the 200M so soon after the 100M - you are not as fresh and as sharp. You are talking about running 6 races in 3-4 days at the highest level. You are wiped out after the 100M.

How are you coming up with 6 races in 3 days? Yes, there is less time between the 100 and 200 at the Olympics than there was at the Trials. But it would be 1st round on Aug 3rd for 100, semi and final on Aug 4 for 100, day off Aug 5th, round 1 of 200 on Aug 6, semi of 200 on Aug 6 and final of 200 on Aug 8. That's 6 races in 6 days, not 3.
The higher road? Someone taking the higher road wouldn't say, "I almost feel like I was kind of robbed."

not her start. the drive phase of her first 50M. her starts still suck. her reaction time was .207 for the 200M. by the time she reacts fraser will already be 5 -10 meters down the track in the 100M.

on a good day - felix doesn't stand a chance for a medal in the 100M. she does not have the raw speed of pure sprinters. why do you think her PR has only been 10.92? the true sprinters PRs have all been in the 10.7s
