Frezer is not a backstabber or traitor. He left OC because he didn't want to shy away from the best competition he could find, which would be Division I. Frezer is a great guy, and I as well as everyone at OC wish nothing but the best for him. Way to go Freze, keep making us proud!

Larry Rose of U. S. Grant is Oklahoma's greatest miler of all time. His 4:11.2 mile in the meet of champions in 1967 is still the real state H.S. mile record.Larry out worked his competition.His high school workouts under coach gary Lower included: mon:30 220's in 25 to 28sec
tue:10 to 15 440's in 60 to 63 sec
wed:four 880's in 2:08 with jogging 440's
in between
thu:6 to 7 miles cross country with sprints
mixed in.
Larry was running well over 100 miles per week in H.S.

I once saw Freze do a long run on no sleep and still go under 6 per mile like it was nothing. The crazy thing was, in the middle he stopped to save 6 children from the top floor of a 32 story burning building, all without stopping his watch.
last year i went on a mission trip to the remote region of lhasa, tibet. the trip was exhausting and took about a week because we had to take 3 flights from the us to beijing, beijing to shanghai, and shanghai to chengdu. after that we took a 10 hour bus ride from chengdu to lhasa driving over some of the highest passes in the world on a bus that seemed like it shoudl've broken down at any moment. tit was amazing and eyeopening how inaccessible the region and town are because of the immense effort the travel takes. there are only a few hundred people living in that isolated mountain settlement... they all know Frezer.

Thank you for mentioning Larry Rose. However, he is a rich white man from a rich white family and was born with all of the lucky fancy accommodations and lucky fancy resources that Frezer and other Grant youth do not have. When I spoke to Gary Lower several years ago at a youth running camp in Colorado, accompanied by Mark Heard from Elk City and the world famous Jim Sanchez, all 3 of them told me Larry Rose's life story. Rose was actually a transfer student from Nichols Hills. He never lived in the Grant district.
Im not why you want to brag about how many miles per week Rose ran. That means absolutely nothing. He could have ran 1,000 miles per week and wouldnt have made him any better of a runner. As proven on letsrun and every single running book every composed, long slow distance makes long slow runners. All mileage does is wear down all of your muscles and make you slower.
If you want running to exist in your life at all after age 35, keep your mileage extremely low and intensity high. Over 30 miles per week only leads to having knee replacement surgery and sitting back watching the intelligent runners who trained short and fast, stomp your face into gorilla cookies.
Congratulations to Frezer. Since Larry Rose has held the Oklahoma State H.S. mile record for 45 years I thought that some might be interested in what his workouts were like. You are right about the mileage, his workouts were quoted by his coach, Gary Lower. If Rose came from a wealthy family, it didn't show. He didn't have a car his first few years while running at O.S.U. His fancy resources were his heart and his legs.
Hey Ghost, Did Rose have someone he worked out with everyday in 1971 before he ran the 3:59.5 mile ? If so, who was it ?
Oh yes. Tom Von Ruden was our assistant coach and we had a talented group of runners that included Peter Kaal (2nd AAU mile to Marty Liquori 1970; also sub-4), George Stewart 4:02, Mike Manke freshman (later 3:35 1500m 4th 76 trials), and a host of other guys that were low 4:00 and 1:50. Von Ruden at the time was one the nation's leading 1500/mile runners and the driving force of the team. The training was very tough and a testament to survival of the fitest. We were definitely products of the period.
Its great to see some Oklahoma names mentioned on here. Dr. Dan Metcalf (former okst all american) has regaled me with stories of Larry Rose for years now. The stories are true regarding his training. Other Oklahoma notables that did well post hs:
1.) mark Thompson- Edmond (3:59.xx, Arkansas, though he did it long past graduation)
2.) ryan siler- edmond, saw him run 4:04 solo on a crappy board track in a relay (Tulsa). I have zero doubt he was capable of sub 4.
3.) Bryan young- Jenks, 3:43, okst
4.) Phil Price- Catoosa, Arkansas, 3:43, okst
5.) jaron Ming- Jenks, Georgetown, 1:47.xx
6.) tommy Green- norman, Oklahoma, 4:.0x, big 8 champ in 1000m
7.) Kevin schwab- Mustang, 4.0x, Oklahoma
8.) Jamie Wynne- catoosa, 1:50, Missouri state
9.) Bryan Yockers- Bartlesville, 4.0x, KU
10.) Donny Anderson- Bartlesville, 4.0x, KU
12.) joe weis- Stillwater, 3.4x, okst

Rose is not mentioned in any of the record book on ohstrack.com, which means he holds no certified records.

No problem. But I know the rules and I've been in the game long enough to know that we are obligated to respect the records that ARE IN THE BOOKS at the highschool level. Or any level.
Sure, you can say once a General always a General. But Rose's era (if thats what you wanna call it, he really want good enough to name the era after himself like snyder, schwab, walker, bigbear, connolly, or Oklahoma legend Donnie Harris) is not the same as the modern General culture.
Being proud to come from somewhere means you are never ashamed of it, no matter how much it has changed. You always give back to the hood that made you (or are white people so ignorant that they believe they made themselves?). My sources (and i have alot of them) tell me that Rose, among all of his other alumni, have turned their back on the name, emblem, logo, and alma mater of the Grant General. They say the South Side aint what it used to be. They say the SouthSide they grew up in was one of honesty, integrity, skin-tight abercrombie clothes, saying maam and sir, and playing darts with their mommy and daddy while watching Lawrence Welk. Those days are over, and Rose and his collegues refuse to admit it. Due to the ongoing evolution of the culture of the Grant district, Rose and his white friends have turned their back on Grant entirely and do not respect it in the least bit.
Frezer Legese has already given more back to Grant than Rose or anyone else ever has or will, and to my knowledge has never denied the fact that he went there or graduated from there. He is truly proud to be a General.
I will take my hat off and salute to Derek Rose of the Chicago Bulls before I salute to the the ex-general larry rose. Perhaps if Larry spent some time around Derek, he would learn to respect colored people to a certain degree, and if he ever got his head straight and wanted to come back and visit Grant High someday, then maybe......just maybe.......he would have enough ethnic swagg and human decency to survive a 1 day visit at the almighty powerful U.S. Grant Highschool.
