It's kind of funny really. Throughout it history those two ages would have made sense. No one would have thought anything negative about it. Society has changed though - and for the better I'd argue - because we now understand that typically the difference in emotional levels between a 34yo and a 15yo is very easily a dangerous game.

I think it's okay that there is a law protecting our youth - both boys and girls. But I do wish it wasn't so double sided. When that happens it's absolutely bullsh**. If a female teacher sleeps with an underage male most of the time she's putting in give or take 2-3 years.

What is the difference in emotional levels between a 34yo and a 15yo?

Why do you consider this law to be protecting our youth? In what way is the 34yo harming the 15yo? Is the 15yo not harming the 34yo?

Did you hear about the male student in Seattle that had sex with his teacher? He died recently. He died of high-fiving. He was in a high-fiving accident.

I don't see what the difference between two 15 yo having sex with each other and a 15yo & a 34yo having sex with each other. If anything, from what I've seen, the 34 yo is more likely to be more respectful and less emotional than a 15yo guy. The 34 yo isn't going to go around spreading stories and pictures and isn't going to freak out when the girl doesn't want him anymore.

There might be a greater level of logic with the 34 year old but I don't think a 15 year old knows enough about life to make an informed choice about anything other than what Justin Beaver song to play or their ipod.

So then the "average" 15yo shouldn't be allowed to have ex with ANYONE, not just people over the age of 18, no?

The difference is that the adult knows enough, to know that it's wrong etc. It's sinister and predatory.

The child is lacking that logic.

We are trying to meet you in the middle but you're acting retarded. Imo, 15 is definitely pretty young, but if they are going to be having sex it should at least be with someone who has no societal power/influence over them. Someone going through a similar experience.

Do you remember what it was like to be a high school senior? I know most people on here are tools but I think I can speak for quite a few that remember how easy it was to manipulate younger girls.

I never said that it was cool? I just don't understand the law and am wondering what it's origin and basis is.

Girls don't really seem to be any different to me now as they were then. The same manipulate-able ones have grown up into manipulative women. The non manipulative ones have grown up into non-manipulative women. If anything, the guys seem to have shown more actual changes (less or no longer manipulative, less emotional) than the girls.

I think of predatory behavior as when something higher up the food chain goes after something below it. Adult going after a child.

When dating, I never considered my actions predatory for no other reason than I didn't see the women I was pursuing as lower down the food chain, they were equals.

Ah ok. That makes sense. So what if the person doesn't consider them to be "lower down the food chain"?

Thought experiment:

What would you do if you found out tomorrow that your wife/gf/love-of-your-life was really 15yo? Through some bizarre turn of events or human cloning or something.

We're going in circles here, we have been for sometime but I enjoy a good debate.

In short it doesn't matter whether the predator thinks that the prey is an equal or whether the prey thinks it's ok, when you're that young you don't have a say. The law decides for you, the law has decided that this is wrong.

I'm not a lawyer but I think there's a thing called jury nullification? whereby if the person is guilty of a crime in the eyes of the law but the jury think it's morally ok for example, very, very extreme example, tracking down a child rapist and killing him after the event, i.e. not self defense, protecting, they can acquit even when under the law that would be murder; Not 100% on that but I think I've kind of got the idea.

So even if Ponce was guilty in the eyes of the law, he would still have a chance to be acquitted but again he's got to get 12 like minded deviants that think this behavior is acceptable and as we've said decent society has deemed it wrong for adults to have sex with children.
