Coulda, woulda, shoulda.....end of story.
Garbage
Times are times, and Rupp's is faster. End of story, or it should be. I don't think it's crazy to suggest Solinksky was in that ballpark in 2010, but he never put down the time, so it's pretty academic to guess about it.
In terms of who is a better runner, though, I hate that they BOTH make it so hard to say, by ducking each other constantly. Their head-to-head match-ups have more DNSs and DNFs than actual races. (Rupp at Pre, Solinsky at USATF, the great double-DNF in the DL). The only times they've both finished a race they entered in the past two years, though, Solinksy has dominated Rupp (Payton Jordan 2010, USATF 2011).
You guys are aware that Jesse Was A Friend is a troll right....
obvious troll is obvious.
In the most logical stand point;
Galen Rupp has now ran 26:48 which is the American Record.
Chris Solinski ran 26:59 last year early in the season and his results from his consistent 5000's indicate he could of gone faster if you believe he is actually a stronger 10000 runner. But nobody will know for sure because he has not entered or finished a 10000 since his AR.
Galan Rupp should and it is expected of him to run a fast 5000 around 12:5X but he has not done so yet.
Now in my opinion I believe Rupp had a slightly better year than Solinski did last year.
This post is hilarious. Anyone who watched Solinsky break 27:00 saw him sit on Rupp lap after lap. Galen - congratulations!!!!!!
Crazy!
The thing is, this question isn't so far fetched. He makes some decent points.
(1) CS won the race - that suggests there was more to come if he were chasing someone like KB
(2) He closed really fast - again, this suggests more time could come off with an even pace
(3) It was early in season, whereas Rupp is coming off his Worlds peak. Surely 3 more months of training can only help.
So, no one has PROVED anything here, but it's not a ridiculous debate. But ultimately it's not one we can prove either way, and at the end of the day the times you actually run are all that count.
Kind of reminds me of DyeStat at it's worst.

Rupp cannot close races like Solinsky.
Yes he can and has, and he has outkicked him several times including when it counted on punching a ticket to a world championship.
Solinsky put on the concrete boots at PRE last year after he outkicked Rupp (after rupp did the goat work) at Stanford.
I really think Rupp would have scalped him at Monacoo this year but that will have wait for another time.

somebody else wrote this too, but saying what the great, awesome, seriously talented and NICE Chris Solinsky "could" run is, well, interesting, but... silly. As someone noted, one of the very best things about running in general and racing in particular is that the truth wins out. You have allergies? You miss an important race. You're a big guy and maybe train too hard at a critical juncture? You get injured (who knows why Solinsky got injured). Chris Solinsky's list of amazing accomplishments isn't yet done, but Galen Rupp came, saw and OBLITERATED Solinsky's achievement, and if you go back to when that happened, Solinsky's AR was AMAZING. So this is better :) 11 seconds better. If in the same race Solinsky, in all his greatness would have been 100 meters back.
Add that Rupp did this shy of 3 weeks after a 5K-10K double at WORLDS where it was hot and humid. Add that nothing about Rupps race made it seem like he was over extended. He looked well within himself with until 350 to go. If he gets in another one of these he can chop more time off. Probably wont be until 2013 though since next year will be fully focussed on the games.
Reading all of this is kind of amusing.
Fact is Rupp ran really well and continues to progress nicely year to year. We should all celebrate a really good performance. His success does not detract from Solinsky in any way, it should just build a healthy rivalry that pushes them both to realize their full potential.
It is an exciting time for US distance running, there is no need for spiteful comments.
didn't read LOL

Why are you people arguing with this dude?
Someone's gotta feed this troll.
I'm curious about what time would qualify as a "breakthrough" effort. Perhaps a WR? Would that be "breakthrough" enough? Galen didn't win the race? Hmm. Let's see.. Which world elites did Solinsky put away when he broke the record? Remind me please.

You fail math.

Actually, "discussions" like this were much more the norm at DyeStat rather than the exception.
I will prove anything!
I have dissed Rupp for his nose strips, breathing masks, and somethings for coming off as an effete douchebag sometimes. However, today, this man has earned my respect. Rupp is a badass. I give up. He has been consistently killer from year to year and just gets better and better. I can't say anything about him anymore.
Didn't mean for somethings to be in the sentence. Damn my poor copy paste skills. Anyway, Rupp is the man now. Over the last year he has made me believe he can win against the best. Farah has made him into a monster.
