Tablet Computers. Are they worth it or is it just a bunch of hype?

Honestly, take a step back for a moment a look at your current situation. I have known some very intelligent Air Force electronics technicians, and I'm sure you fall into that category also. But that certainly doesn't mean your troubleshooting skills are infallible. Fixing electronics/hardware is vastly different from fixing an operating system problem. If you are constantly getting a BSOD and the only fix action you have is to entirely swap out the OS drive, you aren't solving the problem! There's a good chance that it is being caused by a simple hardware and/or driver issue, and you aren't doing anything to investigate (or eliminate) the root cause of the problem.

As I have said so many times before, if Windows is configured properly from the very beginning (unlike many OEMs do), problems should be exceedingly rare.

Amazingly enough the chip guys have evened the playing field for Apple, Google, Toshiba, HP, Acer, Sony, hundreds... to create their own consumer devices which has left Microsoft in the dust. Microsoft is not a factor anymore. Yeah baby !

Nope. No matter how many times you lie it's still a fact that MS Windows is a lemon. It's like driving through Indiana (where I grew up) and Ohio (where I went to college) in the at Christmas time. You see one stranded Jeep after another on the side of the interstate and country roads. No matter how many years Jeep has tried to make a reliable car it's the same scene every year we go home from Christmas.

Frozeup. Rebooted. "Missing Operating System". IT took my notebook and gave me another. So much for Windows 7 Professional ;-{

So to review, IT advice backed by fact-based references must be a lie, but condescending, subjective statements are gospel? Nice.

For what it's worth, it looks like I owe the senior engineers on our team another nice dinner. There was a previous occasion on the LetsRun boards when an (alleged) industry professional felt that our team's Windows reliability statistics were so impressive, they must be a lie. As you might imagine, that's one of the best compliments they could possibly receive! I took them out to for a steak/prime rib dinner that weekend, and it looks like it's time to do it again. On their behalf, thanks in advance!

The apps and games you can play on the iPad are sweet too. The controllers are right on the screen...perfect size...great graphics, etc. They are what they are though- a luxury, and a nice surfing tool.

You geeks are arguing apples and oranges. Windows is circa 1980/1990 and was never designed to be consumer quality. iPhone/Android/Xoom/iPad/... are recent products that never freeze, rarely have to be reset, and were designed and built to be like Honda cars, Mac, Unix, and Linux computers.
