(Bells tolling) Finally someone who can give a straight answer as to what productive use for their work the IPad provides. But its not really convincing either. The Kindle can do pretty damn well with pdfs. And again, do it at a much cheaper price than an IPad.

I used to use a laptop and smartphone and therefore think I had no use for an iPad. I got an IPad 2 and love it. I am a grad student and spend a lot of time reading PDFs and writing short notes. The PDF annotation apps combined with dropbox and Evernote make keeping track of my papers and notes easier. Reading long documents on the ipad is really a lot lot nicer than on a laptop.
Writing papers with the Bluetooth keyboard is also very manageable.
