I also hate running stores. I just go out in my yard and kill two rabbits and use their pelts for foot covering. I don't wear shorts. Shorts are for fools. I don't believe the hype that you need shoes or shorts to run. That took me 5 minutes.

This comment has me laughing so hard that I had a tough time typing. You do realize that these reviews are written by the shoe companies? Most of the reviews are written before the shoes are even made. I can look at a catalog and tell you what the next review will say.

Yes. I know "serious" runners aren't a lucrative segement and if a running shop doesn't want to tie up inventory spece with products for that group it's their business. But as I don't have the excellent purchasing skills that you do I find that buying over the Internet gets me what I want at decent prices and with little effort and uses less fossil fuel than driving to a shop would. This seems to bother you? If so, why?

That's right, I do. Hence I am not a whiner. You piss on your local running community and then try to greenwash it. It is what it is.

I don't think there is a problem with you buying shoes online. I think the problem is that you think that shoe stores are useless for everyone because they are useless to you. Look around you at the next big road race you run. How many serious/experienced runners do you see in the crowd? How many overweight plodders do you see? Get the picture? You are a vast, vast minority in the running community, and the products that your local running stores carry reflects that. Want to see the local running stores cater to competitive runners? Start up a club and start making more people in your area competitive, and watch the running stores shelves.

My local shop gives a great deal to the local running scene and the national running scene. If I pay a couple bucks to help provide for a future Olympian, then so be it. I felt a personal connection when Brian Sell ran in Beijing. I felt that same sense of pride when Desi Davila fell a couple seconds short of chasing down Kara Goucher in Berlin last summer. I can show up to a Sunday morning run and hear about what it is like to run amongst the leaders at many major road races. I feel a connection to many of the top Americans because I see them running against our local heroes. Non of this would be possible without Hanson's Running Shops. I would certainly hate to see that disappear because I (and others) stopped supporting our local running store.

Gee, no one here ever comes onto a thread to agree with a permise. But no, I don't hate running stores. I don't find them all that useful though there are exceptions and have found other places to get what I want.
