Definitely on board with Rim Rock and Furman. I ran Furman in 94, and it was a fantastic course then. For other Southern courses, Auburn had a good one, although Auburn is pretty rural. Arkansas, when they ran at the battlefield would be a great course also (they ran SECs there in 94. Not sure if that is/was their normal course).

Portland Meadows doesn't even remotely meet the NCAA course specifications. It may work for the high school meet but at NCAA's we're talking about larger numbers and denser packs of runners. Portland Meadows (and Louisville) are not courses that will promote a good fair competition. Neither should be allowed to host. Both will have good meet operations but you have to have a good facility to back it up.
On the topic of Oregon they have great fans but they've made a lot of errors in the last couple of years while hosting. The women's steeple at the Oregon relays in 2008 and 2009, the USA women's steeple in 2009 and then the field event issues at this years NCAA's. Someone is not doing their job correctly in Eugene. Oregon may have the best fans but they are far from the best officials and meet ops.
it looks like ISU will be in a permanent rotation for the meet, if not the permanent site for the meet in the future. ISU does a great job hosting this meet, you can whine and complain all you want about it, but wait and see what happens at Oregon and Louisville and people will be crying and complaining about parking, bad courses, not able to see runners, and on and on. Anyone who attends the meet at ISU knows that NONE of those problems exist. It's a great course with thousands of fans that show up every year. No issues with parking and fans can run all over the course unimpeded to see the entire race.
for those who think it should go back to Rim Rock, you have short memories, people were literally abandoning their cars to get to the meet because there was 1 way in and 1 way out of that meet and people had a very difficult time getting in that place.
and for you Mizzery State fans who think you all should host the meet, keep dreaming, that's laughable. Your school should not have dropped men's CC and Track, stupid decision whoever made it. Don't provide the sport, don't host an NCAA championship event for said sport.

Although I would agree with your belief that Portland Meadows is not the best option, remember that the meet officials at big meets like USATFs last year and the NCAA meet this year are not affiliated with the University of Oregon.

Right- just because the meet is at Hayward field does NOT mean the Oregon Track Club officials are in charge or even that many of them are working the meet. This is a USATF & NCAA production respectively. I've yet to see after 30 years of attending UO track meets, an all OTC official crew make a major screwup.

It is a really mediocre course, but ISU does do a great job hosting the meet.

oregon relays women's steeple 2008 and 2009 was screwed up. the qualifying times had to be thrown out.
while the ncaa and usatf may choose officials they take a lot of them from the area association. they are not flying in every officials. there is no way of knowing which officials screwed up at usa's and ncaa's but it did happen at oregon. the usa's women's steeple screw up is a oregon meet operations crew screw up more so than an officials screw up.

Heard the same. Blue Lake Park is the backup if Meadows is sold by Nov 2011 but it's not likely given the state of the economic depression. UP will be hosting since NCAA rules prohibit venues further than 20 miles away from the main campus.

Blue Lake Park and Ft Vancouver are in line for NXN if Nike doesn't move it to Orlando as rumored. Those venues can be used for NCAA cross as well.
NXN would never move to Orlando, it will stay in Portland, if there is a move from Portland meadows, it will be to the Nike Campus- same course as Border Clash.
The Bid Oregon submitted documented Portland Meadows as the site. You cant change that.
PM sucks. NXN is not a champs, a misnomer, and media numbers report low interest. NCAA XC would be much better at Blue Lake.
