What's interesting about German is that whenever he wins, it seems so effortless. It's always been a controlled, even effort, that suggests he still had plenty left in the tank. The times he hasn't won - World XC and Stanford 5K, he was dealing with an injury. At the US 5000 championship, he said he was only concerned with getting the Jr. record. I don't why -- perhaps he was already feeling aches and pains that lead to the injury that kept him from training the rest of the summer.
That is so bogus. Whenever he loses, he's "dealing with an injury", or "only concerned with getting the Jr. record." Despite how he *looks* when he does manage to win, it is clearly not effortless, because his body promptly gives out shortly afterwards.
Ritz: 2 Footlocker championships, Bronze at World Jr. XC, 4th NCAA XC, 1st NCAA XC.
German: 3rd at Footlocker, 11th at World Jr. XC, DNF at NCAA XC, 97th NCAAs.
Highschool track times: Ritz's 13:44.70 5000m > German's 8:34 2M.
As far as German's 3:55 as a college freshmen, big deal, Webb ran 3:53 while in highschool without trashing his body.
I'd rather have Chris Derrick's resume, who has won every inseason encounter with German, than German's at this point.
