Why Does Oklahoma State and Alabama Recruit Foreigners?

Off topic, but every virtually high school in Canada has a football team. So, it's not played just "a little bit" here.

Funny how not so many criticize the Irish at Villanova and Arkansas, the Canadians at Michigan and now Florida State, and the many other schools who recruit "non-visible" minorities. But you get in some African runners and the tolerance levels go way down.

In the sentence "most in this discussion fail to realize..." the verb fail is being applied to the word most which refers to the majority of the people in this thread. In the discussion is a preposition not being modified by the verb. Therefore it is a valid statement. Most (people) can realize something. I didn't say a discussion could realize anything. If you want to break down my argument from a grammatical stand point you obviously can't attack it on a more intuitive level.

The comment is valid because individuals in the thread are clamoring for coaches to develop domestic talent and i'm pointing out that its not that easy. I'm sure Dave Smith would love to win a championship by recruiting only Oklahoma runners. But, obviously, it can't be done. Oklahoma doesn't have the talent pool to do this. No matter how well he coaches he cannot change this. So he looks to outside talent.

Or Americans could just put on their man pants and get better. It is a world wide economy and if an African comes in and wins the prize money (or takes the scholarship) over an American, tough shit. Train hard and get better.

Example: Chris Raabe trained his ass off and was the first American to win Grandma's Marathon in 14 years. He didn't complain the last couple years when he was the first American but several Africans finished in front of him and took 'his' prize money. He trained hard and beat them.

Stop compaining and get better to take the scholarships back.

Oklahoma State is in one of the shittiest college towns in the US. Academically it sucks. Only a retard like GF and Colby Lowe would want to go there with some of the other choices they could have had. Smith is a great guy and an amazing recruiter to be able to get that talent in that shithole called Stillwater.

It is nearly universally true that when one talks/writes one says a great deal more about oneself than about the subject at hand.

Why do so many posters on here think that recruiting foreigners means that coaches don't have to do their job? Do you think that when they land a recruit like Kiptoo or Ledwith they just say, "Whew, now that I have this foreign runner I don't have to develop him at all." Of course not. They still do their job to develop and coach the foreign athletes, so don't act like they aren't "developing" talent; they are just deciding to develop better talent.

Some people are absolute idiots. It is not the fault of the top college teams that the best runners are from east africa. If great runners from the us were being left out I might have a problem with this system, but no one who can compete at the high ncaa level gets left out because schools recruit foreigners. Also, why is it bad to help educate people from other parts fo the world. I think that it is excellent that people who would have no chance to get a real education otherwise are able to get one because of running.

If I was an American I would not go run for Alabama. Look how many American born All-Americans they have had since Joe Walker took over the distance program, I am pretty sure the answer is zero. For the most part none of their American recruits run well their. I don't know if that is because they party to much or they just don't try because they know that the top five on the team will be African runners.

I had a teamate transfer their after his freshman year and he went from being a solid low 26 8k runner to running mid 27's in the 8k. A runner from my highschool went their and went from being a 15:50 cross country runner to running mid 16's to high 16's while at Alabama.

I don't know Joe Walker, besides the fact that he called me once during high school. All I know is that it can't be that hard to have a solid team when you bring in 5 Africans that can already run in the 14 minute range for the 5k.

All I know is that it can't be that hard to know that there, they're and their have completely different meanings. With the exception of 3 or 4, most of the American guys on Alabama's team were 9:40 or worse 3200 meter runners in high school. I don't think you can put the blame on Walker if the Americans that want to go to a football dominated school aren't high quality. He found the system that worked best for him and that's what matters.

BTW Alabama had a guy run 8:14 for the 3k Indoors last year, and currently have 2 guys that ran 9:20s in high School.

The problem is most Americans really want scholarship to go to school, not run with the best in order to become the best, they just want to get as much money as possible.. Because of this is why a lot of american born athletes dont come to run at Alabama.. I mean you all obviously know how good the program is here, you are all making excuses at why we have acieved what we achieved!!

The biggest problem is that because of this forum our ATHLETES are no longer looked at as just ATHLETES, they are labeled either KENYAN or AMERICAN.. so take down that line of segregation and then talk about the type of ATHLETES that Coach Joe Walker has developed.. doesnt matter where you are from, we all bleed, feel pain, and need to be developed as runners.. no amount of talent can make a sub-4 miler(we have 3) or sub 29:30 10k runner(we have 3) without the person being coached well..

its not just those 2 teams. utep, new mexico, NAU, more foreigners than Ok state.

easier than complaining about it.... grow a pair and beat those you compete against, wherever they are from. once i stopped caring where people were from i stopped losing to people i shouldn't have. only lost to a small handful of foreign athletes in my NCAA competitions this year... the americans were as difficult to beat as the foreigners.

A lot of people on here automatically assume that because a runner is foreign born...that they must be black....take a look at FSU's team and get back to me on that.

please find me a runner from the state of alabama who might have even have had a dream of beating on of these kenyans from the university of bama and get bacK at me. and to the guy who made this forum. you are probably just a white,racist, slow kid who wishes the standards were lower so he might even have a chance to be on a sorryass D1 team. I got news for you buddy. Alabma XC is will always top 25...and if things don't change in the state of alabama with the high school athletes they will continue to recruit the foreigners because, quite obviously, they are better than you.
