Not bashing on Woody, but don't give him the credit. Hairston was a BEAST waiting to be unleashed from a bad coach in high school. He had 48 speed in HS and only went 1:56 open....something was bound to happen. He hasn't improved since his breakout freshman year.

Talk on & on about your "hawkeye state" but you're livin in the past--the crowd @ nationals went nuts during the final races w/ uni. They're getting it done. Granted, they also cheered pretty loud for the iowa women (props to them) or the gal from ISU but aside from a thrower or 2, the hawkeye men can talk all they want about the hawkeye state from the stands. One could make the same argument about the basketball team (drake nation) or football team who both seem to only make headlines when one counts the police blotter. But whatever makes you feel better.
I think we are talking about track and field on here. Get some of your own recruits. You call yourselves a well rounded team but your throwers suck and outside of a couple high jumpers all the field events are bad as well.
UNI would take IA in the vault, tripe jump & decat- along w/ the field events of the decat (and obviously HJ)-- or aren't those all considered field events? Didn't need throwers to be one of the nation's best teams but go ahead & brag on it as its about all you have. And this is not to get into a p*$$in match, its just to show that the UNI team is pretty well rounded (aside from the distance & throws--which have also been very good in the recent past)
Get some of your own recruits??? What does that mean? I agree on the sticking to track- the hawkeye nation reference was in re to the brainwashing that goes on in IA & it clearly does not apply to track & field!

Good morning to you too Mr. Stout, its your buddy Mr. Hairston. And here I am thinking I'd be able to read my lets run in peace at my snoozefest of a job.
To correct you, I was far from 48 speed in high school and have only started running consistent 48 splits this year. And, I have improved. Just because I had a disappointing outdoor season doesnt mean I didnt improve because I learned a lot bout my running and training.
I dont know who's "trolling" this thread but they're right. I honestly believe Woody is taking our program in a new direction and it cant, and won't, happen overnight.
Finally, I dont want to make this terribly personal Mike, but weren't you a Hawkeye before jumping ship to UNI? Dont you sport a tiger hawk on your right leg? So where do you come off calling a school and team that you loved so dearly as to plead with me to come here pathetic?

It will be just a matter of time before Dick Booth goes to the Arkansas AD's and "RATS" on Bucky or Doug Case for going out after a meet to have a few beers and relax. Boothis so insecure, that he loves to make himself look good to the higher powers (IE Jeff Long). Don't be suprised that the "MOLE" undermines everything that Bucky and his UNI coaches are trying to do. Again Booth badly wanted to be the next head coach at Arkansas himself. He can not be trusted............

We need to have a STATE OF IOWA Championship meet. Iowa, ISU, UNI, Drake, Wartburg, Central and the rest of the DIII's, the NAIA's and JUCOs now. Should be interesting.
Danny Green and Kyle White will be hanging out at Joses's Patio on Dickson Street this coming fall. They can dream about the days when Katie Hill was giving the orders.

Bucky is a go getter. He is very personable and a hell of a one on one recruiter. He is not the type to try and live off the laurels of the previous coach. He knows the pressure is on and will work twice as hard.
The improvement of kids in his program at UNI has been phenominal. A 1:54 high schooler winning an NCAA title and running 1:46 his Junior Year. A 4:09 miler 2 years later is the NCAA runner up in the 1500. A 4x400 team of all Iowa kids, that almost every year makes nationals and runs around 3:04. Kids that couldnt break 10:00 in the 3200 or barely 4:30 running mid 14's 5k and 4:10 or faster miles. Point is year after year kids develop and get faster under Bucky. He has had a bunch of success with walk ons at UNI. I know McDonnell has at Arkansas as well. Look for that to continue.
Some of the success, especially of the 400 runners, goes to his assistant Doug Case. Case is like a younger, more intense Buck. I would not be surprised at all if Case if choosing between the head coaching job at UNI or an assistant job at Arkansas. Point being Bucky lets his assistants do their jobs. Booth will not have Buck looking over his shoulder trying to tell him what to do. Neither will the others.
Bucky stayed at UNI for almost 25 years. He isnt the type to just bolt. He will be aggressive at Arkansas and go after the best athletes, also getting solid walk ons as well. He is well liked and respected up here and will be at Arkansas as well.
As for Green and White. Like I said, if Case comes down, that would probably put the sprint coach out. I just cant see Bucky keeping all the assistants from the previous staff, in my opinion. Buck doesnt like the admin duties, like most coaches, so look for the coach overseeing operations and admin stuff to be kept on board.
Bucky will be missed here, and there are a lot of new Arkansas fans up here because of him.

Great decision for UNI. HaHA just kidding that was a horrible move on the behalf of the Administration. Travis is all talk but I guess that is waht it takes with the new AD. Go Salukis

This hiring might be good or it might be bad, but do not confuse being a great Assistant Coach with being a great Head Coach. They have much less in common than most people think.
