I think you are missing the point. It's not so much about the kids showering with each other. It's the adult showering with them.
It's not homosexulality people are worried about. It's called sexual abuse.

This is such a total overreaction. When we teach our kids that the world is full of perverts, everyone suffers. How about we just tell coaches to avoid showering with just one kid. Like, what the h*ll is going to happen with the coach and the team, an orgy?
Also, these are teenage boys, they have some ability to fend for themselves. As a teenager, when I hitchhiked, I had a couple of encounters with homosexuals. I told them I wasn't interested and that was the end of it. I just cannot believe that sexual abuse of high school boys by their coaches is a significant problem.
I agree. Seems like the U.S. has a lot of hangups over nudity, bathing, etc. and every male is a child molester. Even though I have a distance running background and have lots of "clinic" type coaching education, I want nothing to do with coaching anyone under the age of 18. All it takes is for one dumbass kid to say "coach was looking at me funny" or "I saw coach not wearing shorts in his car" (while changing clothes in the parking lot) and your life or career is OVER. It is simply a risk that I will not take. So for all you guys who have a football coach who is "stuck" coaching XC and knows nothing about distance runners - this is but one of many reasons why.
I have a male friend who had to attend an "anti-molester" clinic put on by his church [a Catholic Church, to make this story ironic] in order to CONTINUE teaching Sunday school, which his kids also attended. No wonder there are not enough volunteers for kid's activities, sports, etc.
I guess my question is why even put yourself in that situation?
Imagine having to defend yourself to your principal or worse, having to answer questions from an attorney about how you as an adult, and teacher, thought it was fine to get naked with a group of children.
Sitting there saying "we used to do it back in the '70's" ain't exactly the best defense.
If anyone read the Bowerman biography, he not only showered with the Men of Oregon, he pissed on them during it. Different scenario in college though.
Yes, the percentage of child molesters is small and it is unlikely the coach has bad intentions. But, about 1 in 4 people are molested in this country (I believe), and child molesters often seek out opportunities to be with young people. But the point is, the coach is putting himself in a vulnerable position by showering with the team, and it clearly is making at least one member of the team uncomfortable. The 70's are over; you can lament all you want about current hang-ups, and prudish behavior. But the sad reality is the world is probably more fu&*ed up that is once was, and things are certainly more stringent, for good or ill.

Has to be BS. Let's narrow it down to males molested by authority figures (teachers, cops, priests, etc.). I would intentionally exclude family members, as this has absolutely nothing to do with coaches and showers. I really doubt it's even 1 in 100. And a sexual advance which is rejected should not count. Again, young people have some ability to act on their own.

Why? Because he probably does not have a separate facility and he does not want to wait another 1/2 hour to get on with his life. Yes, imagine having to explain to another rational adult that you shower after a workout. You use "get naked" like he walked into his english class in the buff. In the context of taking a shower "getting naked" is quite the norm. Yes the 70s defense would be quite stupid when there are so many other logical and reasonable explanation to use.

I agree. These kinds of numbers are often total BS. A few days ago I was hanging out in the hallway of a classroom building waiting for an appointment and there was a poster about rape on the wall. It gave a whole bunch of statistics and one of them was "one in (some number) or rapes victims never report the rape." How the hell could they possibly know that? Of course, they don't know. If a rape was never reported and investigated, the person putting these numbers together can't possibly know that it occurred . I get the feeling that the "one in four people are molested" number probably comes from a similar source.

I'm not saying he is a child molester. I'm saying he is guilty of very poor judgement and he is leaving himself exposed (pun intended) to allegations and speculation.
Also, when have you EVER dealt with a rational parent or school administrator when it comes to allegations of sexual impropriety?
Big problem here. It's the priest and boy scout thing going on. The main reason he wants to coach is to see naked boys. A fellow runner I know coaches hs and we work out at the same indoor track in the winter and sometimes we end up in the showers at the same time. Now I know every guy takes a peek once in awhile but this guy does a eye bulging stare at mine when we're talking. Sometimes too when he's dressed he'll be talking and stroking his dick at the same time. I always wonder if he's doing the same thing at the school. Very creepy!
Sounds like you like it - maybe you are the one "taking a peek" - as for stroking and talking - I think he likes you and you like it since you said "sometimes" as in this happens more than once. Maybe he caught you "taking a peek"?
