Webb's race doesn't prove anything about his tactics, but it is worrying that the race started out 4:25 and 4:22 the first two miles but Webb basically burned up on a fairly conservative pace at a time where he should be pretty strong at some slower longer distances. Maybe he was sick or overtrained, but it definitely shows that there is a problem at this particular time. Hopefully it is something that he and Raczko figure out soon.

Every single one of these guys has a faster 5k time than Webb and better championship credentials. I don't know that Webb was going to win even if he'd run a good race.
It's time to say goodbye to alan. Whatever he did since osaka has set him on a path to nowhere but disappointment. Pity. Could have been a great one.
You forgot to mention maybe overtraining. The guy is a incredibly motivated type A personality that has problems controlling his emotions and energy levels when he steps to the starting line. If he just takes it one notch down in is adrenaline level at the starting line he will be good to go.

I cud be wrong but I seem to rememeber a certain geb dnfing in london 07...not bashing the guy fantastic athlete as he proved later in the year but it just shows how crap ur argument of geb not dnfing is.
dnfing a marathon is way different than dnfing 2.5 miles into a 5k road race.

alan webb is a great guy and one of the best US track athletes of our day. the only reason he is criticized is because he hasnt yet met other peoples expectations for him. i think his best is yet to come and i wish him the best.
