Oh and the race i dropped was also a 5K.
Oh and the race i dropped was also a 5K.
an ill alan webb finished .7 sec away from a medal - minutes later he said "i've learned from this" ... no he hasn't.
later an ill alan webb claimed sickness at the 8k champs where he had his ass handed to him, now he dnf's with 800m to go in a freaking 5k - nobody does that except for people who don't have what it takes.
for a miler, with 800m to go in a 5k ... it is the kill zone. if he can't handle the "b team" with 800 to go at carlsbad, he will go down in flames in beijing, if he even makes the trip.
Do you know exactly why Webb dropped out? Maybe some muscle was tightening up enough that he thought he might tear it. Maybe he had gastro problems and thought he'd sh** his shorts. Now that would be even more embarrassing than dropping out.

He dropped out of a f*cking 5k, that is pathetic. It's 3 miles, jog the last 800 in and run 14:30...who cares.
Unless you tear a muscle or something there is no reason to DNF. You didn't see Haile DNF when he walked over the line in London a couple years back and Tergat didn't throw in the towel when he jogged in for a 2:14+ in Athens.
I've lost alot of respect for Webb, I don't think he has it mentally to be any good on the world stage.
Yes, Haile Gebrsalassie DNF'ed London 2007. Look it up yourself.
Whats the big deal with Webb dropping out of the race today? It seems to me that the 30 people here on Letsrun are the only ones who care. Give the guy a break people.
Webb is a no heart competitor when it comes to competition!!! He gets pulled around by some stupid pacers for records but when it comes down to it he just doesn't have what it takes to be a competitor in a real race. And this isn't even a real big race. I just mean in general he doesn't compete at the level that he needs to in a high level of international competition. For him its a hit or miss and with his attitude its always going to be a miss!!
webb gets bashed if he runs fast early
likewise
he gets bashed if he runs slow early
webb is webb. he has phases. he runs like shit. a lot. but he also can also string together some fairly* good races once in a while. if he was running well now, i would be more worried about him later for the trials and olympics. he can't put things together for a very long streak and if he was now running well now there would probably be less of a chance that he would run well later. that is just how webb works. however, this whole quitting mid race thing doesn't work for me. at least earlier when he ran like shit, he would finish his races.
*=understatement
One thing I think everyone on this site can agree on:
He dropped and he gets shit from all these c***s. If he hadn't dropped and he had come in around 15min, these same c***s would be railing on him saying should've just walked off the course instead of coming through slower than the women's winner.
Blow it out your asses.. Alan Webb has done more than most on anyone talking crap. Actually more than everyone one these boards. Alan Webb is a absolute beast. I can put down money that every single person on here was tripping balls when he ran the American Record this summer. I bet that you even watched the Video twice. I know its on my favorites on flotrack. Like you have never run a bad race or had a rough spot in your training. Oh know he dropped out or whatever happens. The only thing that matter is when he runs the USA's and on 08-08-08.. haha I love the statement "If he makes it there" do yall remember last year how Bernard Lagat would get burned at the end of every race over the summer, no kick to save his life. Then look at him destroying everyone at worlds. Just a part of training and when strength comes to.. He is 24 or 25, and in better shape than any of you could dream of being in. So stop bashing the man that will represent our Country in August. You should be proud he isn't from Canada. GO ALAN, I am always a fan, not a band wagoner

My God, he could have jogged in and still beaten Slattery, who at least finished and must have been in similar distress. But the difference today is that Webb is from Virginia, Slats from New Jersey. WTF?
Unfortunately I must say, HERE WE GO AGAIN. Up and down like an Eliott Spitzer date night. Webb is a true paradox wrapped in a mystery.
I am fan too, and he is a marvel of running talent, but his race history is simply WEIRD. I really believe that no one else of his category, at the prime of a career, has had such a record of so many strange race days.
You can go ahead and be a fan of Alan Webb. The only problem with that is that you are guaranteed disappointment. He will not deliver when it counts, but he is a good runner and i hope he does great things. I like to see people run their best every race weather there best is 13:10 one day or 13:40 another day. ALAN did not run his best for today! Maybe if he would have finished losing the race that would have been fine, but the way he loses is weak!
well if you are going to run badly, might as well do it now and get it out of your system, than to run badly in china
WHO CARES! No one will care one bit about Carlsbad if he medals in the Olympics.
I have a feeling that if Peter Coe trained Webb, he would be much faster and more consistant.
Actually maybe not a lot but he would be faster.
why is that?
Webb had a stellar season last year except he failed peaking...
