3) pacers dropping in and out to maintain the formation
I’m assuming there’ll be male pacers so Nike can just have them run the full mile with her. I’m guessing they’ll recruit some big names. Kipchoge’s pacer group for INEOS was practically a who’s who of legends. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ingebrigtsen, Fisher, or Hocker in there for some extra star power.
Thought so too, since that would give the strongest team, but I think for optics' sake they may want an all female team.
Worst cheater in the sport. How does someone get 15 years of doping immunity?
This is ludicrous, everyone knows she's been cheating her entire career. Her ego is so massive that she's trying to PR by 7 seconds, don't really know what other drugs she could possibly take though. One thing is for sure that TUEs list is a mile long.
Don't understand how anyone can actually like her, she ruins the sport. It's like how you know the winner of every F1 race before it starts except she's done that in women's middle distance for 5 years.

I'm just putting in a large order of popcorn on Amazon for the inevitable LRC meltdown by male running "studs" who will cry when she gets under 4, even under 4:02. I think any sub 4:02 performance would make it difficult for the LRC running studs to cope.
Goddess Faith is dominant.
This is me done with track. Nike should be ashamed of themselves for this. 3.49 1500m runner breaks 4 for a mile. Nothing suspicious here move along.
Moran, she hasn't broken 4. But yes, please be done with it and stop posting.
Some norwegian dudes calculated how much effort running behind someone saves.
With a google translate:
"The calculations by Bu and the triathlon gang also gave an answer to how much it pays to lie behind a hare. - You reduce air resistance by 70-80 per cent lying behind a hare at 1,500 metres. Or in this case the air resistance will have been reduced from about 110 to just over 40 Watts. That is significant, says the researcher. Bu has also calculated how much faster Ingebrigtsen could have run if he had done the same race, and used the same amount of power - with a hare in front of him. - It is a bit difficult to assess as we do not have an exact model of Jakob, but it is about two seconds in the 1500 metres."
The point here was that Jakob's 3:28 effort in the Olympics is ~3:26 with a pacer.
Maybe with an optimal pacer formation you will eliminate ~90 % of air resistance so Kipyegon could see a benefit of 2 seconds compared to having one pacer running 800m in front of her.
Forget the micro dosing and whatever else she’s on. She needs to pull out the IV bag for this one. WADA pay attention. And while your at it keep a closer eye on Obiri
She's not micro dosing, she's full on dosing. Micro dosing is a bit of a myth. The chemicals havent changed, nor has their dosages. The only thing thats changed is fancy shoes, and wave lights.
Makes sense for Nike from a publicity standpoint. Breaking barriers sells, even outside the track fan niche. It’s a plus that everyone understands the importance of a sub-4 mile, but most non-fans (the people who might click an ESPN link but won’t seek out running news) have no clue what 4-5 seconds means at that level. So it’ll be huge news that she’s trying without being a big deal when she misses by a few seconds. Solid win-win, nice way to put some eyeballs on whatever frankenshoe they’re cooking up.
It’s all in the marketing and that round number of 4:00.
She will likely run 4:05-4:10 on the day….but this will pull more mainstream eyeballs than Grand Slam Track and Diamond League combined!
She'll run a lot faster than that. Everybody has to stop visualizing a typical women's race. Nike wouldn't be pushing this if all they were going to do is substitute a more aggressive pacer.
It's going to be like the Paris men's 1500 with all the elite runners single file. Those runners were pulled to several seconds faster than typical by Jakob. This is like a lab experiment with the same basic concept except intentionally scripted all the way around, with Kipyegon in the third position among five, receiving aerodynamic benefit throughout instead of being abandoned on her own after 800 meters.
The bolded aspect is correct. This will extend far beyond typical track and field parameters. I saw Michelle Wie comment on the Instagram post and encourage Kipyegon. Wie is a Nike athlete who is now into running and posting some related videos. She is trying to get back into shape after having her second child and plans to run a half marathon when she feels capable.
