Haha no. That would still be Nauman followed by Zuber. Great run for Wolfe though.

It should have been Anania but Wolfe passed him today. Beat the best to be the best. I predict 4:05 and a Drake win for him.
Great day for Dunham and Wolfe. Merrick posted his satisfaction on Strava but still seems like a huge commitment for a performance that he could have done at home.
A Pleasant Valley 8th grade girl ran a faster mile than their top runner from their state winning cross country team. They will be poised to repeat in the fall.

I admire your faith in the Dowling coaching, but Nauman is the most talented runner in Iowa. He is the favorite.
Give us your picks for 1600/1500 3200/3000.
We don't know who the favorite is unless we poll everyone in the state. Anania has a faster PR. Zuber has very similar PRs to Nauman. Wolfe ran very fast for January. Ten Pas is very good. Tiea could run a great 1600 if he chooses to.
In terms of talent, that is a tough one. Runners will become more specialized after going to college. Maybe Merrick will be the best. Maybe Dunham will be the best. Maybe it will be Decker. Sometimes it is the guy who is quietly finishing 3rd or 4th in everything. Think of Karissa Schweizer. Think of Matt Carmody.
Here are my picks.
1500 Ferebee, Gall, Wedemeyer
3000 Ferebee, Beason, Steines
1600 Wolfe, Nauman, Zuber
3200 Nauman, Zuber, Merrick
Somebody posted in another thread that Merrick is the Iowa 3200 record holder. Are they merely claiming that he broke the Drake record? There are a handful of boys who have run faster than Merrick in other meets.

I assume they mean the drake relays record, he also has the 5k record in state. All time Iowa record is different than in state records. Him and Zuber are technically 1 and 2 all time inside of the state for XC
What XC record are you referring to?

Fastest time ever ran on iowa soil
Are you just making fake records up? Heidesch ran faster in high school but not in Iowa. And other small school kids ran faster on other short courses.
This post was removed.
Neither the IATC nor the IAHSAA keep records for fastest XC time on Iowa soil. Bobcat was 30-60 seconds off anyway.
Ford Washburn officially overtakes Heidesch as the King of Iowa and I don’t care what anyone says. Sub 4 at BU today, has accomplished way more on the NCAA level.
Let the Howling begin...
Washburn has better mile and 3000 amd he ran at XC nationals. Have to give him top award currently for that class. Nash and Knepp made nice improvements. But for all current Iowa guys, Sieperda first, Murphy second, Washburn third.

I would agree with this, the top 3 are all pretty close together when you look at every event. Ford and Max are pretty close. Max still has him as of now in the 5km, tied in the 3km, and Ford ahead in the mile. Siperda is obviously a lot older, so has more development, and he has a higher place finish at NCAA XC nationals. Good list though.
Does Dowling have a stable of runners ready to emerge? Every year it seems they have run out of talent. But by fall they are back at the top.

And then at NXR they choke
