Someone posted in 2022 that Dalby was going to leave and take a job elsewhere but decided at the last minute to return to Mountain Vista.
Who wants to coach at Vista? I don't think that a new coach can do what Dalby did. I think Copelend would be the ideal person, but he is now invested in Chapparal. Is there any coach out there that thinks they can do something with this program? They are losing 5 seniors. So that coach would have a lot of work to do.
No wonder why Chapparal is doing so well
Copelen taking over would be a disaster. That guy can’t hold down a stable job.

Who else wants the job?

Hopefully they hire someone very great, to keep the legacy going
I know that coaching isn't about the money, so hopefully the person applying can see the value and opportunities in coaching an excellent program. Even with the loss of some key seniors, they have some incredible talent left. Talent breeds talent with good coaching. This decision could make or break the program. I imagine the loss of coach Dalby is significant to the team and the need for someone to step in and take control by proving that they are capable and have a good foundation of coaching experience is crucial. I actually think it's critical to Colorado running. There is a ton of talent in the area and the impact that Mountain Vista and other Colorado schools have had on distance running is really valuable. Hiring someone that wants to see the program be successful even with the undervalued pay (which can be supplemented with summer and winter programing and camps) is important.

Can anyone give insight into the some of the bottom teams that qualify.....ie 15-20 and what their team average would look like for the 1600 or 3200? XC times are too hard to compare, but just wanted an idea of track fitness for some of those qualifying teams.

Super hard to say on average because some teams have a great 1-2 punch or a great top runner that skews average. We didn't make it out of our region with 2 runners under 17 and three under 18.
I’d bet if you have 5-7 girls returning under 5:20-30 depending on the State you are in, you have a shot at NXN. You do need 1-2 sub 5 and sub 11 to help your chances. Hard to compare though with elevation and weather differences throughout the track season.
Thanks for the sharing.....its a longer term goal for my program....currently have a 5:16, 5:20, 5:26, and a 5:31 girl.....I think/hope they can all go another 5-8 seconds faster by end of track.....biggest thing for us is finding our #5 6 and 7. We don't really have anyone that jumps out right now.
We have a top 5 returning average of 5:20.8 right now with our slowest girl at 5:29 and we probably won't be a factor in our region. I think we'll have 5 under 5:20 (maybe 5:15 average) by the end of the season.
Yeah, some regions are definitely more difficult than others.....another factor, at least IMO is that alot of girls are better at the 800/1600 and it doesn't always translate to 3200/5k equivalent performances.

So someone posted in another thread that Dalby left Mountain Vista but will be coaching at Cherokee Trail CO. I wonder if he will be coaching both the boys and girls
---------------- NY is going to have a bunch of strong programs:
Bethlehem returns 5 of 7, Shen returns 6 of 7 Saratoga returns 6 of 7. ( We will see how they do with the krannicks finally retiring) Northport returns 5 of 7 (all 5 scorers) Guilderland returns 6 of 7. FM will hopefully put a team together this decade. (lol)
For NXN spots, I would lean 2 of the top 3 I posted, but the overall depth on the girls side will be great.
