What scrawny little runner posted this? I can bench 260 at 185lbs and am in sub 18 5k shape, 225 is obtainable in a year by virtually everyone who isn't disabled or old. 5:00 mile is 10x harder. And I would argue if you don't have at least a little bit of natural talent, it's impossible. For most people it is easier to bench 325 than get sub 5.
5:00 mile is not 10x harder. I literally did that comfortably without ever training for running when I was 19 (and upon that realization I did take up running very seriously). I’ve also benched a decent bit over 225, but it took a lot more work for me. It all depends what you’re built for, but they’re fairly equivalent achievements. Most people could never get close to a 325 bench press even if they dedicated their lives to it (unless they gain weight to get to like 350 pounds). A lot of people couldn’t bench 225 either, at least without serious work.
