We merged like 5 threads into 1 and sort of combined the titles. Rojo, who said Rooks had a 1% chance at a medal, started a thread pointin gout the betting odds on Bovada were 33-1 when the race started.
Just got back from the stadium. not sure what broadcast showed but yes girma seemed to convulse/ fencing posture right up until a few moments after the last runner passed- then laid motionless while medics attended to him and loaded him on a spine board and carried him out . was surprised no cart of any kind to expedite . scary stuff
MY god. If that and Quicny Hall in back to back races doesn't make you proud to be an American, you need to have your citizenship stripped.
I would argue that if it takes 2 guys winning Olympic medals to make you proud to be an American, your citizenship should be revoked. (Not that that can happen if you are natural born citizen.)
Man, going into the race I figured top 10 at best. Then I was amazed when he surged into the lead at the start of the last lap. But that effort to stay in 2nd after the last hurdle was gutsiest of all. Great race!
I'm kind of embarrassed to admit I forgot there was even an American in the final. I was distracted by my kids for parts of the race, then I looked up and OMG 'MERICA!!!
Duh, that is presumably why Lauren said that in the interview

“Proud to be an American”?! lol. Jeezus what a stupid take. I’m only *ever* proud to be an American when our country does something to make the world a better place, hopefully for nothing in return. How we do in sports has zero impact on how I feel about this country.
Then you don't get it and I'm sorry for you. And you seem unhappy and mean- spirited. Also sorry 😞.
Le recordman du monde du 3 000 m steeple a lourdement chuté ce mercredi soir à l'entame du dernier 200 m. Inconscient sur la piste, puis évacué par civière, il a depuis repris connaissance avant d'être transféré à l'hôpital p...
On the other hand, his best enemy, the Ethiopian Lamecha Girma touched with his left leg the heavy steeple barrier, before tilting forward and hitting the ground with his back, then head. On his stomach, the world record holder of the specialty did not move any more while the whole peloton avoided him. From a distance, the images were also frightening since his left leg was seen convulsing.
Immediately taken care of by the rescuers, the athlete was evacuated on a stretcher before being taken to the medical room of the Stade de France. The Ethiopian lost consciousness on the track, before regaining his senses and being able to speak a few minutes later. He was then taken to the hospital for further examination.
Guess USATF will have to have extra team staff to help keep Rooks and Hall from dragging those big ones on the ground. Two epic performances in one night.
