In an interview coming out later today, Cole Hocker is quoted as saying that he is going to marry Parker Valby and run for president of the United States.
Hate to break it to you, but Valby is all about the bruthas, if you know what I mean. Tall. muscular, sprinter type, but none of the Americans, other than maybe Kenny. Skinny white Cole Hocker would have zero shot.
This is not going to make him a millionaire. He will probably get a few hundred thousand from endorsement deals. It's track and field not Football, Basketball, or Baseball. Sadly nobody really cares about mid-distance running outside of runners. The reason some odd sporting events have so much money such as Golf, Poker, Boxing is because of betting odds, and a prize pool that each competitor contributes too. Which means for example in relation to Golf and Poker if the entry fee is $10,000 and there is a 2,000 participants the prize pool is $20,000,000 with 10 percent getting paid means first place could potentially be $2,000,000.
You don’t think Centro is a millionaire? Rupp? A million dollars is not that much money anymore. We have billionaire athletes now.
Yes, his life will change and yes, he will be a millionaire within 12 months if he isn’t already.
Feel like Nike would give the fattest bonus for Gold out of every other sponsor. I remember people knew what the bonus was or an estimate of it back then for an Olympic Medal/Gold. I was just curious if this Gold would boost him into millionaire status with Nike. What does this mean financially for him.
Billy Mills’ win in 1964 changed his life, so it’s not about money. Just being an Olympic champion is a big deal.
That mindset is how they keep people from getting what they earn.
Hocker is the man. There must be something about him to finish like he did. Come to think of it he is an Olympic champion and there has to be something about you for that. We will never look at him the same again. We will have respect for him now. We will look in awe when he races in future and wonder. This Herculean effort has cemented him as a legend. Cole me mf Hocker !!!
It sucks that our best athlete is considered a major success to hit millionaire status and to a mediocre basketball player, this is chicken scratch.
In the NBA, they play 82 games a year with average attendance of around 17,000 per game with a ticket price averaging around $95. The NBA has 3 media contracts worth in the billions. Track doesn't have any of that. Almost all of Hocker's money comes from being paid to wear shoes and apparel. It's a market reality. Hocker makes a lot more money than the best fencer in the world. Do fencing fans complain about that?
Fencing is easier than running. In fact most sports are easier than running. Running is others sports punishment. If they don’t perform in nba or soccer or whatever, they are made do laps of the field as punishment. Athletes should be among the highest paid in the world because it’s one of the hardest sports in the world. Most people outside of running can’t comprehend how hard a sub 3.30 minute 1500 metres is. They have no idea how fast these guys are running because the cameras cannot do it justice. These top level Olympic athletes should be getting paid in the millions. The fact that other sportspeople in easier sports get paid more is injustice.
Being a gold medalist he will be able to book speaking gigs for the rest of his life. Also he will probably be in ads for the next few years. He will die a wealthy man.

The fiscal illiterate never understands this basic fact. They see how much Patrick Mahomes or Messi makes and think all athletes in all sports are worth that much. No matter how niche or unprofitable the sport is.
Yep you win gold in the 100m or 1500m, you will be handsomely rewarded with your primary shoe sponsor and a bunch of other endorsements. Definitely a multi millionaire esp if you have a great agent!!

Can you clarify what you mean by millionaire? Do you mean "has $1M net worth" or "is now making $1M/year"? The definition would be the former but want to make sure that's actually what you're talking about.
I wouldn't be surprised if he's made $1M by this point but doesn't mean he is actually a millionaire
Winning gold could significantly boost his earnings, especially with a major sponsor like Nike. Historically, Olympic gold can lead to substantial financial gains, though reaching millionaire status depends on contract terms and personal financial management.
