Saddest line in rock?

For the second time on this thread, I'll name the second-to-last song of an album that's quite sad as a whole.

I guess we morphed from "saddest line in rock" to "saddest song in rock".

Yeah, I started it because I couldn't isolate a line from "My Father's House."

Of all the words in ink and pen,

The saddest are it might have been.

Springsteen is one long misery trip. Don't get me wrong, I love his stuff, but man are his lyrics depressing sometimes.

Hard to pick, but I gotta go with this passage from Downbound Train:

Ditto-- it gets me every time and I try to remember it's lesson. I've missed hundreds of workouts so I could get home to hug my kids.

In her hand when she died was a note that cried

A hauntingly sad song by the late great Townes Van Zandt entitled "Tecumseh Valley." I still feel emotions every time I listen to it.

I find this song to be very sad, but also a motivation tool.
