Was rooting for McSweyn too. He’s never been the same as after he got that heart condition post Covid/vax/whatever it was. He’s done amazingly well to get back to where he is, but I personally don’t believe he’ll ever be seriously competitive again. I’d love to be proven wrong, as I admire his guts.
The 1500 has just gotten so much better than McSweyns peak of 2021 let’s say. In those days being in 3:29high-3:30hi guy consistently meant top 3s on the circuit. Now you’re in a group of about 10 guys who can do that behind 3 guys who can go way faster.
True, but time inflation (or - rather - deflation) is across the board from High school to college to pro. It’s extremely noticeable in mid-distace and longer. Shoes/tracks/better training - whatever it is, it’s very evident. If he (McSweyn) was in the same form, he’d be experiencing time deflation too. He just hasn’t quite reached the levels he used to be at pre his heart issue. Still, I think he’s excellent. Would love to see him win something. He’s a very gutsy runner.

I don’t think much has changed from 2021-2024 in the M1500 in the sense that Stewy should automatically be faster. He isn’t alone in staying around the same level and getting passed by the field (Mechaal similar situation).
It's always striking to me just how good the NCAA is in the 100... last year it took around 10.00 just to make the final -- better than all this year's Diamond League meets put together

Do you think T. Cheruiyot will have an edge over Jakob (even of a few 1/100 sec), next time they race together? that remain to be seen.
He has one of the best coaches in the world.
Look more like a temporary track because of Jakob results.
Morceli exploded because he raised in a family of middle distance runners.
