Not sure why the announcers were so surprised by what Kipyegon ran. 4:07 is what you'd expect from a 3:49 1500 runner. Not to take anything away from how incredible that is. Pumped for Hiltz as well.
The mile can be harder because of more time alone at the front. Does seem the lights help and she closed at 60.8 for the last 109…she was well within herself for when Nanyondo dropped off. This one was paced slightly better than the 1500 actually.

for a strength runner with a great 5000 pb, would't expect much of a dropoff from 1500 pace. and she barely looked tired at the end.
